  • Lasker and Eastbay a perfect match

In case is anyone didn't know (like me), apparently sportsmanship and competition are no longer related whatsoever at EastBay Raceway Park (the Clay by the Bay)...at least when Gene Lasker is behind the wheel of a sprint car. Every week, Lasker is putting his bumper where it doesn't belong, causing wrecks that shouldn't have happened, and otherwise unnecessarily and wrecklessly endangering the health and property of his competitors. Most recently, he even spun out a lap car after the checkers had already waved and he had already won the race. When confronted about the conduct of the sprint car driver with the biggest mouth at East Bay, management of East Bay literally said, "I didn't see anythig...I was in the bathroom." While that may have been the case last night, it certainly has not been the case every other night that Lasker has pulled similarly unsportsmanlike maneuvers, costing his competitors thousands of dollars and, even worse, unnecessarily making more dangerous an already dangerous sport. Maybe it's time that the families that go to watch this family-oriented sport take it back--before Gene Lasker ruins it for everyone. As for me and my family Eastbay and Lasker can have EACH OTHER

East Bay has let Lasker get away with acting like a moron for a LOT of years. He's a big liability to them, yet they never go beyond a slap on the wrist with his punishments.
Already this year, at the King of the 360's event, he was tossed for a night after "an altercation" with Gary Wright. In all the years Gary has been a gypsy Sprint car racer, I'd NEVER heard of him being in any kind of controversy with any other track, driver or sanction. In fact, he WILL be in the Sprint Car Hall of Fame once he becomes eligible. I don't know any of the details as to 'why' Lasker was DQ'ed for that night, but it doesn't surprise me a bit that he was involved. He seems to have a lot of little-boy temper tantrums behind the wheel of a 700 HP big-boys toy. He's a danger to everyone around him.

I think Gene was the one who flipped his car end over end at Ocala a few weeks ago.

He was involved in that accident Jim, but it was someone else who flipped.

That was Red Stauffer that flipped over Gene at Ocala taking Gene's wing with him, and injuring Gene's leg. He had a great recovery and ended up taking our a car in turn one at EB the next night, and maybe flipping himself. Like F118 said, he's been a pain for a lot of years and it doesn't really matter which track he's at. Remember, he, Bubba Clem, and Hulk Hogan used to be joined at the hip. Hurk used to sponser Bubba and Gene. It's really to bad he's that way. He is a good driver when he wants to be. billy

Lasker puts fans in the stands and that is the bottom line. Yeah hes got a big mouth but he usually can back it up. Its a lot of fun to watch the guy drive a sprintcar, no follow the leader there. As far as bad sportsmanship I would say the sucker punch he took in front of his wife and kid was way worse than moving a car that should have seen the move over flag a lap earlier. Just my opinion for what its worth.

You don't just "move" a Sprint car out of the way... no matter what the reason is. ANY contact in those cars could kill someone, and for it to be intentional is inexcusable.
If he wants to "move" people out of the way that he (and apparently you)thinks deserves it, let him strap into a Bomber or Demo-Derby car. Those actions have no place in Sprint cars.

Im not sure if you were there or not but the car that got spun was givin the move over flag a lap earlier, coming out of turn four said car came of the bottom of turn four directly in front of Lasker. Lasker made contact and both cars hooked bumpers. I never said Lasker hit him on purpose, only the drivers involved would know that. Yes there could have been some give on Genes part as he allready had the race won but Ive seen a lot of races lost because the leader gave and got passed on the last lap.

I have to agree with zrace20, I was there and the guy drifted up in front of Lasker coming out of four and they hooked bumpers. Lasker is aggressive and cuts it close, but this incident was not intentional from my vantage point. He (Lasker) lost his front wing about halfway through the race and still managed to dominate the race. He was as excited and wound up as any driver i have seen win a race. The sucker punch he got was probably deserved for past incidents but undeserved for last Saturday night. JMO.

Who sucker punched Gene? Was it in front of the fans or in the pits?

Heard it was Jason Law....and he got him as he was walking out turn one...He just did what many have wanted to do for years. 98% of the drivers in all classes at EB cringe when they see him pull thru the pit gate and they wait to see who will be his next victim......as for him strapping into a bomber, I have two young nephews that drive in that class and do a better job weaving in lapped traffic....so, send him on to the Demo derby. I always tell people until you have driven on dirt and understand the set up, control or lack of.....don't accuse the driver of taking someone out but LASKER has history, which seems to repeat regularly. It's to bad, with so few sprints these days.

The problem was the checkers had already waved and the race was over then he spun out said car... It was definitely done on purpose because he likes to put on a show and he even said so in the pits! Lasker has history of running through cars instead of around them when he gets excited and he should be penalized for doing such. However the track for whatever reason continues to allow him to do it. When someone gets seriously hurt EVERYONE is going to say he shouldn't have done that and the track is going to get the blame then..

The race was not over. The cars hoked bumpers well before the start finish line and spun across the line. I know lasker could have lifted however he was coming to the flag. Really not his or anyone elses style to lift coming to the win.
