55 years ago Brevard County Speedway hosted a 500 lap race in it,s first year of operation.It was run in two 250 lap segments. The field in starting order were, 1 Emil Reutiman 2Phil Orr 3 Jim McGuirk 4 Royce Barton 5 Buster Burt 6 Stan Kross 7 Rosebud Flowers 8 Harry Pullen 9 Dumont Smith 10 Will Cagle 11 Rudy Brinson 12 Dick Joslin 13 Tommy Stienspringer 14 Smitty Smith 15 Maurice Hamilton 16 Ernie Bass 17 Dick Crowe 18 Paul Clemens 19 Al Moschera 20 Jack Richmond 21 Dick Freeman 22 Bill Lamper 23 Don Bortz 24 Ray Stoniger 25 Harry Morgan 26 Dave Rendahl 27 Larry Brazil 28 Ronnie Rood 29 Buddy Mock 30 Floyd Tillman 31 Bill Hurst 32 Dennie Dennis 33 Wally Weeks. The race was won by Emil and Buzzie Reutiman. Emil drove the first 250 and Buzzie the second. They won by several laps over their persuers. So we can fully appreciate inflation, Beer .35 coffee/sodas .10 hot dogs .20 and popcorn .10 Happy Stiegle was flagman Ralph Allen Pit Steward and Merrit Johnson chief scorer. Those were the days
