  • Scott Speed Wins Arca - Alli Owens Finishes!!!

Former Formula One driver Scott Speed won the ARCA race at Kansas Speedway yesterday coming from a lap down in a Red Bull sponsored Toyota... Indiantown's Patrick Sheltra was in the top ten, Bryan Silas was 16th, the first car a lap down... Alli Owens got to finish a race finally... Got 19th a lap down... not spectacular, but she was a lap ahead of ARCA vets Frank Kimmell and Bobby Gerhart!!

Scott also had an 8th place finish in the truck race. Alli actually finished 18th
after qualifying 14th at around 169.5 mph.

Congratulation to Scott Speed for his ARCA win.

Congratulations also go to Alli Owens for a job well done. What should be noted and some may not know is that this race was Alli's first race after being in a bad motorcycle accident that tore open her left knee. Doctors had to operate to put her knee back together and then Alli had weeks of painful therapy to be able to use that knee again and be cleared by her doctors and ARCA to race again.

Her 18th place finish was pretty impressive but what made it even more incredible was that she developed motor problems with ten laps to go and finished the race on seven cylinders.

I think Alli is doing great. Many local racers can only dream about doing what she's doing right now. She's worked very hard to get where she is and isn't about to stop now.

Alli tested my road race stock car (ex ASA Delco National Tour stock car) at Sebring in February, and did very well. She had never road raced, never seen the track, much less driven it, yet by the third session, (the first two were cut short by accidents) she was cutting competitive lap times. She had help from former Formula One driver and highly regarded road race instructor TOMMY BYRNE.

By the way, for those that are not familiar, SEBRING, is a SEVENTEEN TURN, 3.7 mile road course with a half mile long back straight where our stock car hits about 165 mph directly in to a double apex second gear 180 degree turn with incredible bumps that upset the car, then up a 2200 ft straight to a 90 degree left flat on the floor 3rd gear turn through the esses to a high speed right bend and then straight at 140 to a HEAVY braking Zone and first gear hairpin and so on. It is a test, and not quickly mastered.

You could train a monkey to replace Almendinger.

I wonder how many cars Almirola has to crack up before getting the boot from a ride he doesn't deserve.

ya ya diversity program blah blah blah, all the talent in the world blah blah blah.

How many LM championships does he have? I really don't recall any wins..........but i haven't done too much research on it. I just know he's tried to knock the wall down at every track he started, he did survive the attrition at Martinsville though, at Dega yesterday he tried to draft and when the car in front turned he went straight, but, that was probly the spotters fault.

As for Alli Owens.....that is an impressive finish for such little time in that type of car.

            I'm very bitter today

            maybe tomorrow will be better.

Alli told me about testing at Sebring. She was very excited to have that opportunity. Road racing is something that Alli always wanted to do and I think she would be pretty good at it. I was with her when she was in Phoenix, AZ for a driver development course. One of the cars they got to drive was a SCCA Mustang. Alli was second fastest in that testing.

If Alli's schedule allows, we are going to try to get her in a couple V8 StockCar road races later in the year.
