The "Thundering Herd" of the Desoto Champ Kart Series will make it's third appearance of 2008 at Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Punta Gorda, on Saturday night, May 3.
This event will feature a special guest, United States Marine Sergeant Joey Pierce, from Jacksonville. Sgt. Pierce has recently returned from his second tour in Iraq, and will be filling the seat of five-time winner Rance Williams. Sgt. Pierce has been asked to serve as the "Grand Marshal" for this event. You can read Sgt. Pierce's story at:

The series would like to welcome any interested or curious folks to come into the pit area, to meet our drivers and crews. This series has some of the friendliest racers and crew anywhere.

Competition: Three of the four DCKS features in 2008 have been won on a last lap pass for the win! Also, in the last ten series events, NINE different winners have triumphed!
Stars: Think this is just a "go kart" series....?? Already this season, 2007 TBARA Sprint Car Series champion Troy Decaire has participated once (finishing second), along with FASCAR Truck driver Barry Bartlett (finished seventh). Late Model and Open Wheel Modified Driver Dustin Chisholm is also expected to make his 2008 debut with the series in the coming weeks.
Turnouts: In the first four shows of 2008, the DCKS has averaged 24 entries!!
Purses: The cash payouts for DCKS features have been healthy this year. In addition, we have contingency sponsors for every race. And NO, our purses don't take ONE CENT from the front gate of any track we race at! The series generates it's own purses entirely from our own sponsorships, class entry fees, and other revenues. The series participation at each track is entirely a PLUS for every other class. We bring fans into the front gate, buy a lot of pit passes, buy concessions, etc., all of which puts extra dollars into the other class payouts that night. Our racers are simply grateful to be able to race at the "big tracks"!
Cost: As with any division, a racer who wants to spend a lot of money can find all sorts of things to spend it on. But, consider this.... The Dec. 1 feature at CCMP was won with a 12-year old chassis, that the racer found on the Internet for $200! Look for it on May 3 to again run near the front of the pack (the #57 kart).
The Desoto Champ Kart Series - A little different.... where racing is fun again!
