Seen the name Rick Coffin in Auburndale's results. Is he related to the late Richard Coffin ? Richard was one of my favorites at the Gate.

      The late Richard Coffin

Rick, your dad was a true racer. He was one of the nicest racers around and all the fans loved him. I still have a key ring picture of him locked in my safe, carol I think I purchased it from Bobby 5x5 day photos. If anyone has picks of his #17 green machine with the ET logo on the hood, please post them.

Thank you so much for inquiring. Those are very kind words. We have some pictures of his green car and we are trying to get them on the internet. It is great to hear from my dads fans to know how much he was liked.
        Thanks alot.

When I was in high school I worked for Richard at his gas station in St Pete part time after school. He was one of the most fun loving people i knew.He was always cutting up and always had a smile on his face. We lost Richard way to soon, I will always have fond memories of him.

I remember Opening Day, 1982 at the 'Gate. Richard, I believe, had bought Ed Howe's new Firebird-bodied car that Howe ran at the '81 Governor's Cup and ran second to Mike Eddy. When I first saw that thing at the Cup, most, if not all, of the other cars were the second-generation bodied (Camaro) cars. That "new" '82 Firebird looked like a freakin' Ferrari, it sat so loooowwwwww...it was a mean green machine! When we opened up the next season, there it was, renumbered to Richard's #17. What a bad-a$$ looking car!

Thank you for letting me know how you felt about my dad. Many people say he was a great guy. Thanks to Billy and Wendy Bechtelheimer, I am able to follow in his footsteps. They are wonderful friends and special people.
