I heard that ownership was looking for new people to run and promote the track. Until they have these people in place they decided to keep the track closed. Check it out.

I know that there have been some serious inquiries by individuals wanting to lease the track in the past couple of years but FASCAR has been reluctant to do so or not able to reach a decent agreement... What the place really needs is new blood management-wise that will do the things necessary to make it successful... In today's economy, the days of just opening the pit gates at 4PM and drawing a decent field of cars and opening the stands at 6PM and getting a nice crowd are long gone... Despite what we hear, don't look for things to get better anytime soon... Most people can't afford to race and many would-be race fans can't afford a night at the races... Unemployment remains high, but what is worse are the millions right now who are "under-employed" and just making ends meet. People still want a "night out" on occasion, but are very limited as to their resources to do so and the lack of excitement at OSW as compared to a place like Citrus or Bubba-Land really hurts right now.... If it were me, I'd rather have someone else dealing with the headaches of running the track and just sit back and collect my rent money...

Butch and Barbara are the best thing to happen to OSW in a long time. What they need is some help from a professional promoter or even a promotion company. The track operations have been smooth and they are always friendly to the racers. If I ever owned or leased OSW, Butch and Barbara would be my first choice as operations managers.

One of the reasons we race there is because of them and all the other track workers. If not for the current track staff, we would be racing at citrus and a-dale. NSS is hard on our engines, occasional visits there are ok, but no way will we race there on a regular basis. If they close OSW, citrus and a-dale will gain more cars than NSS.

You nailed that EZ. Especially the engine part. You have to have one first that is competative.

Tired of "the economy" excuse... The 3 most successful shows right now are in Citrus Co., Marion Co. and Columbia Co.

Nobody can convince me those counties are healthier than Orange/Seminole/ Osceola/Brevard (OSW), or Hillsborough/Pinellas (East Bay). There are a LOT of tracks struggling in Fla, but I have to believe it has more to do with management than "economy".

Sure, it has some effect, but to place the blame squarely on that is just keeping your head in the sand. Why do some of the brokest counties pull the biggest crowds and fields of cars????

The B&B team have tied with the things that they
can do,its not their money, its not their track,or their rules. They must do as told from the NSS gang even when that group was not a clue of how to run a track! If they did, Mr Robrets would not be on the payroll!!!!! How long til someone fines that out ? Maybe after both tracks are gone to a point of no return! LET's HOPE NOT!

Hey Don... It used to be "Promoter of the Week" when Herndon owned the place until you took over in late 1985... That place was a blast in '86 and in '87 until Clyde bought it... We had more race cars and fans than we knew how to deal with... Wish that old magic could be re-captured!

That's right Dave, when Don took over the pits were over flowing with cars. Over 100 every night for almost two years, including Figure Eights which were very popular. Packed full grandstands as well. Started going to this track in '79, lived through the shut down in the early 80's, thats when NSS went to a Friday/Saturday schedule to help the OSW drivers.. Glad when the Hart family bought the track. Even remember the red tag days when the county tried shutting the place down. Clyde fought that on TV like a tiger. Remember the power truck coming in to cut the power at the counties order. I hope all of these efforts have not gone to waste and the old place will survive yet another fiasco. Honesty was missing this time with the "schedule conflict" statement. Wonder how many fans, of the remaining ones the track has, will show up this Friday to see a closed track. Not the best way to re-start a track, if that happens. Well off to Darlington.

I don,t think you meant Columbia Co. they are closed. I think you meant North Florida Speedway who is averaging 80+ cars per meet with about 5 classes running each week.

Columbia County is where the City of Lake City is located. I was referring to that, not the former speedway of the same name.

But it is a perfect example of my post.... one County, two tracks. The dirt track gets 80 a week, the asphalt track was lucky to get 25. Same city, same fan pool to pull from, same night of the week, yet one flourishes while the other has tanked. NO WAY can the economy be blamed for the downfall of "Columbia Motorsports Park".... or whatever it's called this week.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE TRACKS DOING WELL THEY DO NOT HAVE FULL TIME STAFF WORKING FOR THEM .. you call citrus with a question and its after working hours that they reply to you . not saying its a bad thing to have a person full time but not several? and to have a track in the tire bussiness is a problem i been racing close to 20 years last year i bought more new tires than all the other years combined now thats what is killing racing
