Actually, I do believe that David Wilson and Scot Walters did not win that race due to a big motor. If you took notice of David and his other Super Late Model wins, you would see that they have figured out how to get power to the track. They have figured out a set-up. I did hear the Rocker arms were illegal, but a 1.6 to a 1.5 would not have gained them as much power as they showed that race. They tested and did their research which is why they are winning in the Supers as well. You can't expect to show up Sat. afternoon and have your car perfect. Scot and David are great together and did nothing wrong except show those boys how to get it done. David is a great, young, level headed driver and thats what wins races. If I were David I would go back with 1.5 Rocker arms and do it again just so no other drivers have an excuse as to why they were beat so bad, but I doubt he will go back.

"I hear the Rocker arms were illegal"

2 sentences later.... "They did nothing wrong but show them boys how to get it done"

Pick 1 story and stick to it... which one is it?

I understand, David and Scot were illegal, but honestly, the little gain from the rockers was not enough to have beat them as badly as he did. Dont you agree that the gain from the rockers wasn't enough of a change to allow David to pull out to such a margin? I honestly believe it was the set-up and chemistry Scot and David have together.

It is possible that the inspector stopped looking when he found the rockers. There may have been more things left undiscovered, although high ratio rockers do help a great deal.

Disclaimer: I was 200 miles away during the inspection. I don't know anyone involved. I raised only a hypothetical situation.

1.5 to 1.6 can mean a big difference in lift. Could make for another .050 of lift if set up properly.

              Rockers

I assume he was running a GM crate motor ? If so I was under the impression they were allowed 1.6 rockers as per ASA rule. I know a lot of those crates are cheated up big time. There are engine builders who will tell you right out for an additional $6500 you can have the best one out there. Happen to know the car that got the win by default has one of those in it. My other question is when they say that they found a way to get the power to the ground, that makes me raise an eyebrow. Can you say traction control?

cheatin makes a fast car faster just like it makes a slow car faster -- either way it aint right.

sounds like maybe they didnt need to cheat in your opinion, but they did anyhow.

1.5 to a 1.6 would make a gain in HP especially if the cam was set up for it. A MUCH bigger gain can be made by running a 1.75 with a cam designed for it and the rocker arms are exactly the same as a 1.5 or a 1.6 but the fulcrum is moved. Going from an optimised 1.5 setup to a smaller cam and 1.75 allows less valve spring pressure and several other items and the gain can be up to 100hp.

Well, I attend the Desoto races most all of the time, and I know Scot and his background. He is not one to cheat intentionally, I do not know David to well, but I hear good things from everyone about him. He doesn't place himself above anyone. I know that does not have a lot in common with the topic but it's just a little background info. Also last year when Scofield won 8 races ( I believe) at Desoto, he was accused of traction control, now a young hot shoe is having success and he is getting accused of traction control also? Why is it when drivers find a hot setup that works they are accused of traction control? It seems like when people find success, some people try and slap them down? be happy for him and his new team! I am not directing this comment toward anyone or saying anyone on here is thinking this. Just throwing it out there! Btw I also heard 2nd place finisher who won by default had a motor done up special. Could be a rumor, but i doubt it.
