Very cool to see a shot of the Soapbox Derby cars. I have an interview with Will Cagle in which he mentions racing those as a kid... against none other than Buzzie Reutimann. He goes on to tell that he figured out that nose weight was the trick, so he stuffed an old cylinder head down by his feet and covered it up. He was last at the top of the hill, gaining at half track, and won going away.

Even as a little kid, Will had tricks up his sleeve in his quest to win.

Will also told me of his years as a USAC Sprint car racer. He failed completely, went totally broke, and almost quit racing entirely. Luckily he changed his mind, and a Hall of Fame career was earned.

Sorry about the hi-jack, I know it's a Buzzie thread, but that picture got me wondering.... "what's the chance of Cagle being in one of those other cars?".

Great thread Trash. Those pictures of the old cars really make me glad that I've lived through that era. At least all the cars didn't look the same. Of course anything "Reutimann" is good with me. billy
