I hope for their sake they aren't making a big mistake. Bruton said that the fans spoke and he listened. He said that "progressive banking provided multiple lanes for racing", i personally thought that was a good thing, only time will tell if it was the right decision.

I think it's a mistake Doug. It should bring back the bumps and wrecks. Guess that's what most of the average fans want. I actually liked the racing better on the new progressive banking better than the older configuration. I have a lot of respect for Bruton but I think he's placing the blame in the wrong place. All the tracks have empty seats and I think that reflects more on Nascar than Bristol. My photo site: http://www.rewingphotos.com

Bruton did not have to ask the fans. He counted empty seats and declining reservations for future races. Progressive banking while offering the illusion of side by side racing it is really single file racing with multiple lanes to ride in. Often the lowest groove does not work as it kills your power at the apex. Bristol is not about dirty driving per se its more of who is the best at having at it as they say.

I agree this is better. It will bring back what Bristol has been missing, EXCITEMENT. I don't like progressive banking anywhere. I feel an asphalt should have a dominate lane that is better than the other that way when someone uses the less dominate lane to get around someone you know that they really have there stuff together. Look at alot of Nascar legends thru the years and see where they built there reputations, at Bristol without progressive banking.

I don't like the move. Progressive banking is definitely better. Side by side racing with the opportunity to do a "slide job" is a better way to go. The reason for the empty seats is a combination of high ticket price in a sluggish economy and a sterile racing environment due to reliance on big sponsor money and a buddy-buddy environment in the pits with everybody's kids playing together in the motorhome lot. "I can't move him, our kids have a playdate!". Racing was better before, but not because the track was one groove. It was because there were true rivalries. You should respect your competitor, but you should dislike them on the track. You can make it one groove again and the racing will be even more boring because no one will "move" each other. NASCAR has become an "exclusive" club of millionaires who won't do anything to lose the priveledge. The whole "fans have spoken" angle is hurting racing, in my opinion. The Nationwide race at Daytona was 1000 times better than the Cup race due to the villified "tandem" racing. The Cup race was a yawner. Pack racing sucks. Ride for 475 miles then have a wreckfest at the end because you can't pass. Glad I didn't drive over and waste my money. The only NASCAR races that I'll even watch anymore are the short tracks and the road courses but I'm sure they'll find a way make them boring too as they have with the plate races. I'd rather go to a local short track race anyway, with driver going balls to the wall from the green without much love for each other...
