Doesn't matter if a track is dirt or asphalt as long as its still racing.

It comes down to who is running the track and how its run that will matter. If a track is mismanaged and you put sugar on a pile of crap, it doesn't matter if its dirt or asphalt, it will still be crap.

You are right about asphalt racing, but, how is Volusia doing right now?

Would it take more than just adding dirt to Desoto? Would the pit exit/entrance need to be reconfigured? Would the asphalt have to be left on it?

Best move you could make, just make sure you do plenty of research on what type of dirt works the best.

Your best bet is to get ahold of Howard Commander. He has run a very successful dirt track in Upstate NY for years by the name of Lebanon Valley Speedway. His latest endevor is leasing another facility near his by the name of Albany Saratoga Speedway.Funny thing is AS was paved originally and then had clay put on it only to be uncovered and repaved a few years ago. After several years of boring one-lane racing with small car counts and a promoter who basically ran everyone off,he decided to lease the place to Commander. He in turn put the clay back down over the pavement once again and had the grand-reopening this past weekend.Place was standing room only.AS is a semi-banked 3/8's mile track to.The man is also a genius when it comes to promoting.Or listen to some of these nut jobs who are clueless when it comes to racing.Choice is yours....

Where are the cars going to come from? Up against East Bay, unless he runs Friday. Engines are the thing that's gonna suffer. Has anyone ever seen a Dirt engine torn down after a season (if it lasts that long)? Not pretty.

Dave... something gives me the hint that you aren't exactly a dirt track fan. That's okay by me, as everyone should be allowed a preference. But I do see a lot more longevity with dirt racers than I do with asphalt.

There must be something to it, or 4 times the people wouldn't be racing on it.

                                Volusia

Not only did Kent and his dad (Benny) build tracks in Fl,but in Georgia & Alabama also ------- Dirt Car National bought Volusia several years ago and only care about speedweeks for their profits (75% )(Feb 20 2012 News Journal) and have a hard time tryin to sublease it to anyone that will give them the majority of the weekly profits.
