This was up in Brad Vores' column on Hoseheads.com today:
Williams Grove Speedway will kick off its seventh season of the Saturday Night Series this weekend.
The Grove’s Saturday Night Series features the Blazer’s Auto Body Super Sportsman, Brooks Graphix 358 late models and Newville Construction Services street stocks and will feature 16 shows during the next five months for the three divisions.
Frankie Herr (Super Sportsman), Gene Knaub (358 late models) and Doug Hoffman (street stocks) are defending speedway SNS champions.
Aside from great racing on the track, all SNS shows are very fan and family friendly with just a $5 general admission ticket price.
Note the last sentence - $5 ADMISSION PRICE...
This is a very good show as their Super Sportsman (sort of a limited Sprint Car) draw well over 30 cars each week and the LM cars are about the same with 20 or more Street Stocks usually... So, you pack the place with folks at $5 a head rather than get 200-300 at $15 or $20 a head... You make more money at the gate plus tons more on concessions and the like...
I'm sure the Friday 410/358 Sprint Car shows at The Grove cost a bit more to see but the purses are obviously higher and with the talent they have there, the typical Sprint Car fan will probably fork over as much as he has to to see the show although I bet it's not a wallet-buster...
This track has operated a very successful Friday/Saturday format for many years and it reminds me of the old Golden Gate Speedway days when they ran three classes on Friday and three on Saturday and the stands were packed both nights...
Just goes to prove you don't have to run 12 classes at $20 a head to be successful...
