If you
If you dont want a practice nite, then stay home, let the guys that want it have it!Originally posted by Frasson118 View PostI guess me, and the rest of the country, are wrong. Got it all figured out here, yet wondering why there's no cars.
How come everyone else can overcome a crash, rebuilt transmission, or break in a motor without needing a practice night to do it? The rest of the country manages.

Well it's good to see SOME people get it. Practice is not mandatory..
If you can't do it for whatever reason, then don't.
You all sound like Doh'bama... "but it's not FAIR...".. STFU already..
10 bucks is cheap too,for all you other whiners. Track crew and EMT on station and electric has to be paid. That stuff is not free and no stimulas money available... JEEEEZE!!

I suggest those of you that don't go to asphalt racetrack test nights but have a strong opinion of why test nights should go away, actually make an informed decision. Go to the test night and ask each driver why they are there. You will get a variety of answers. The majority are low budget teams that need the tracktime and they will be hurt if practice nights go away.Last edited by UREZ2PASS; 04-19-2012, 07:03 AM.

Open Practice
Open practice for $10 per person doesn’t hurt the low budget teams at all. We all know the big teams will go rent the tracks out for hundreds of dollars and get hundreds of laps. I know for me these $10 open practices are the only time I could get some time to go try things. The big dollar teams are going to go practice because they have the money. The low budget teams if they can will go to this low cost open practice.

BTW.. another good thing about open practice night is for a non-racer to get some seat time in a friends car at a low cost and less 'getting in the way' of other teams there to race that night.... just sayin...
My very first time in a car was a practice night with a SLM I helped sponsor. They let me take some laps and I was hooked. Bought a car and started racin' a few months later. That was 12 years ago.

Right now there aren't many cars RACING at OSW & NSS to begin with... so that naturally means lower numbers on practice nights too... A practice night is good for new drivers, drivers with new cars, drivers with rebuilt cars and those just wanting more seat time in a more relaxed atmosphere... I don't think the cost is that bad for what you can get out of it... The track still has to turn on the lights, pay employees and the worst cost of all - insurance...
We used to have a lot of fun on Wed. practice nights at OSW back in the Westfall/Marcus days especially when we had the Saturday night show going on as well...
Remember the TBARA race a few years ago when Kenny Adams destroyed the competition? Guess who was the only Sprint Car driver that showed up to practice that Wed. - Kenny Adams... Wonder if he learned anything?

Open practice night is a much needed night for some racers for example. We am building a car now and am looking to open practice night to tune test and get seat time at an affordable price and so we have a competitive car on saturdays otherwise we are going to have to test and tune on the first few races then we will just be in the way out there. Shutting down open practice night would hurt my team very bad and many other people who are getting back into racing or starting off new. Bad discussion in my eyes.

I dont often disagree with Frasson, but this is one of those times. I view it as an opportunity for the little guys to get some lower dollar seat time to catch up to the guys renting the track for private sessions.
The reality is that there is likely more than just practice and setup separating the high dollar SLM teams from the guys that cant afford to practice. Probably all sorts of neat things like shocks, motor, etc that are keeping them elevated.

The point is, that he is trying to tune the car on cheap nights when it is less hectic. Rather than spending the extra money on race day where he will get less track time, potentially be in the way, and just not be competitive. Why show up at the track for race day if you feel like you aren't ready to be there yet? Having an extra couple cars that aren't cometitive and are just riding around does nothing for the show. When the car is ready I'm sure he WILL show up to race, AND put on a better show.Originally posted by Frasson118 View PostPerfect example.... a new car that will there for some practice nights, but will NOT be out there on race night. Another car that DIDNT come to the track....
