Heard something interesting on this week's ASA radio show. If you move the timer to 23:00, you will hear a veteran track promoter talking about how he tried a new promotion last year where he sold books of 25 tickets for a race, at $2 per ticket, to local businesses. They then could give them away, or sell them to customers, etc. He sold 4,000 tickets, in books.
That night, he had a crowd of 5,000 come to the track, and his concessions jumped from a normal of $8,000-$10,000 concessions, to $18,000 sales. So, he didn't lose any money (sounded like he made some), and it got a lot of new faces to the track.
He said he's going to do it 3 times this year.

That place was like Grand Central Station during Winternationals... Met Danny Smith for the first time there when he was 18 years old - and he's still racing! Will Cagle always there hanging out too... Don Mack and his guys from N. Dakota and so many more... That's 'ol Bob Patten driving the push truck and probably Robert Smith in the #3...

I worked at the Trans. shop for about 7-8 years off and on. That's where I got my start in the transmission business Somebody was always coming by. Cagle would hang around a lot. I remember one year Danny was down for racing and tried working with in the shop. That didn't last very long. LOL! Funny thing is everyone thought Bob owned the tranny shop. The old guy that was always there did, Charlie Mitchell. Thanks to them, I'm where I am in life (occupation wise anyway) today because of them. Which is pretty good.Last edited by dd38; 04-16-2012, 10:16 AM.
