  • NSS 4-7 Where were the cars?

... the fans in the stands showed up, but 11 slm cars?
Why didn't this series race get more support from the drivers? It seemed people / drivers wanted a series to race for points, but this years attendance
@ three races doesn't support that.
... would love to hear what went wrong or why drivers couldn't make it.

Yes it was sad... I thought I had come on a practice night instead of a race night.
The dozen FUPS cars were a good quality field though, going the whole 100 laps green. The best racing was mid pack...

RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.

Agree, the field had quality & the racing was competitive. Just needed some more cars & maybe a yellow to create a little more strategy & doubt about the outcome.

Who is in charge of FUPS...? Anyone...?

In the past, everyone knew that Florida Pro was Burt Ashleman, Sunbelt was Don Nerone, and FAST was the Andersons and Alan Bruns.... But this one...????? There doesn't seem to be anyone in charge at all.

All the classes were small but, all had quality cars and good racing. They all were caution free until the last race, which was strickly stock.

I would love to run FUPS/Bright House but don't have the funding. So I stay running weekly shows. I believe each track is responsible for FUPS when they race at their track.

If you go to their website, it does have Rick as in charge of the series. But that may have changed but no one changed it on the website so I don't know. And the reason the Florida Pro was such a huge series when it first began, that is because they would call the drivers and ask them to please come and support the races and they did. I am sure that Rick Bristol does alot of that with the Truck series now.

I will be honest, I was shocked to see how few cars were there Saturday night but I also realized that it was Easter weekend and a time that alot of families spend together and go see grandma and grandpa and put racing on the back burner.

It was not NSS responsibility to get the racers there, that belongs to the series and it's people. And I do agree, the 12 cars there were good cars and good drivers and you seldom see 100 laps run under green which must have been good for the fans as long as it was some close racing and not spaced real far apart.

Let's face it, to make any series great or any track have a good car count, it takes work all week long to get those guys to come and to know that they are wanted. Today, everyone needs to know that they are wanted and that it counts that they are there. Just don't get why no one is writing about these races and all you get are race results but no story. I am sure there are alot of people who would fight me on this, but everyone loves to see their name up in lights and down in black and white and that is just the way it is. Five Flags does this, Bubba Raceway does this, Eastbay does this and the big dirt series does this but our local short tracks have forgotten that people not only want to see results but some kind of story about the race.

You want cars and car counts, use the phone and call everyone in that little phone record to invite them and for Pete's sake, find someone who can write and put out more than just race results.

I do not mean to hurt any feelings but this is just the way it is today. No longer can you sit back and just hope to get cars and drivers, you have got to let them know they are wanted and needed and you are happy to see them.

                  My thoughts exactly..............

What is BRP doing different? Punta Gorda? Citrus? You can't say payouts because last year Nss doubled the payouts at the beginning of the season and it didn't seem to help.

What a shame for NSS. As was previously mentioned it is the series that is responsible for bringing the cars and the track brings the fans. This looks bad for NSS even though it is not their fault or responsibility. I see this is the only FUPS race they have scheduled this year. All the other races are promoted by NSS and OSW. Unfortunately for the racer, without a promoter who works daily on a series it won't survive. It will be interesting to see how many SLMS show up at Auburndale as Rex was the one who started this series. The series that FUPS replaced never had less than 20 cars show up. I bet you get double the cars at the Billy Harvey Memorial.

                      car counts

slm car count have been 10-15 except at citrus all year. nss gave fups a date that would produce low car counts, easter weekend, and a slm show the week before and after. i see the bigest problem is there are 4-5 and sometime 6 slm per month that you can go to, between all the tracks in the state, and not enough cars, and when sunshine opens it is gonna get worse! if there were only two races per month, you would see 20-30 cars there. just my 2 cents....
