Modifieds 10 Inch Tire

We were there with about 4-5 others. Us, Bruns, Tucker, Ebersole and I think Wheeler. Mostfully uneventful. Cars ran from the teens to high 40's depending on the quality of tires. We were on tires that were at least a year or more old. Some of the guys changed springs/shocks and got more serious than us. Definately more stable and faster. Now only if they do something. Thought more would have showed up.

How did the FASCAR mods get to this point? Who remembers why the track went to 8" tires? To be more like the rest of the state? To save money? To unhook the cars and minimize the benefit of high $$ engines? No sarcasm here, I really don't know.
What happens if they return to 10"? Does everything get more expensive? On the surface, it sounds like it would.

tommy, the 8" rubber would be great if they lasted more than 50 laps and didn"t cost 525 bucks. at least go back to the 8" slick, they lasted twice the laps and cost less. we just want the track to do something to lessen the cost, not just be in the tire selling bussiness.

They talked about this several years ago and nothing happened but we never tested them. I don't think it is a step in the right direction but you have those that will push for them and say how many more cars there will be but that's just me. I loved the treaded tires but then again you had to be up on the wheel with them to run good and you had guys that either couldn't drive or like buying tires each race that complained about them. If they go to 10 inch the might as well go all the way and run tour type mods.
I do think it will cost more money for a class that is struggling for cars. First off 6 new wheels and if it was me every car would at least have so type of safety hub on right front and better brakes

More side bite will require more horsepower and those who spend the money will find more power. I don,t see the saving but improved stability may improve side by side racing but all to often there is only one fast groove on pavement.Originally posted by Tommy King View PostPersonally I think maybe a 12in tire. That would make them really stable. With teams having to buy new wheels and every track in the state on 8 in rubber, racers should flock to the track for a chance to race on big cheap tires.

modracer22. You call them treaded tires (among a bunch of others). There is no tread on them. There are grooves. Back when I first started messing with Mods, we did run on treaded tires. The Hoosier Comanche. That was a REAL treaded tire. It was even D.O.T. legal for the street. I thought you moved to Supers because of the grooved tires?

No I moved to the supers because of the motor deal and having 2 different classes with the mods along with other things. When I first started in the modifieds we were on McCreary treaded/grooved and I've ran on the comanche and I also pushed hard for the grooved tires when we went to goodyear grooved but as I stated in the above post had a driver come to my pit and do nothing but complain about them instead of working on his car after that and other things including splitting the class I decided to move on. In the big picture why should I care I don't have a mod anymore but I do like the class and had a blast in it. I wish everyone luck with the 10 inch tire deal to me it just promotes spending more money.Originally posted by dd38 View Postmodracer22. You call them treaded tires (among a bunch of others). My take is it can't get any worse...like I said when they switched from limited to pro late models...a few people bitched but they had seven cars showing up a night, I have seen a similar turnout with the mods, seven cars is hardly a race. I sold my mod because of the grooved tires, it just wasn't fun to me, the tires didn't last and were just as expensive, and there were NO CARS. People will bitch and moan about having to buy eight new wheels but is it really that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things...I have 15 10" wheels that are all the wrong offset for my new late model, you can have them cheap. I'm sure there are other people like that, and there were good late model tires being thrown out at the world series like they were nothing. I would be happy to give my take-offs to a mod driver to see the class do better and help out a fellow driver, sometime they have 30 laps on them. So the track would lose some money on tires sales, too bad, they would make it up in car count.

22, its not the promoters spending money, its the racer saving money. if your buying tires every 2 races on the 8s and you can run 4 nites on the 10s your saving a bunch of money. plus e mods can run free take offs for weeks instead of buying 8s every 2 races. i don"t mind driving on the 8s, i"ve won a bunch of races on them, i do mind needing to replace them after 2 nites. if i can run twice the nights on the same amount of money, then my car will be there twice what it is now. i think it will inprove car count.

If you go to 10 inch tires then engine costs will go way up due to the fact of the extra power you will be able to use plus power train upkeep will be more expensive due to the extra grip with the tires plus wrecks will hurt more due to the extra speed.

tires
Does not make a difference in size of tire, 10 inch or 8 inch, either grooved or slick, what makes a difference is the cost of the tire and how long it will last. I know a lot of you feel that you don't care how we did it up north, but like I have wrote on here before I have raced on both Goodyear and on Hoosier racing tires, some with grooves, some slicks, but the tires were some of the hardest compound the company made. Until a promoter gets out of the tire business, makes a rule for a harder tire, car counts will keep getting smaller until they have killed the sport of auto racing. Example: Raced 12 night, which was a full season in Ohio, after rain cancelled races. We bought 6 tires for the whole season( 6 tires) never fell off on time more than a tenth of a second from new till the last race of the year. We raced a late model against 18 to 28 other cars every week, ran Qualifying, fast dash race, heat race and feature. ( lots of heat cycles). Missed the championship by three points to finish second for the year. Point being 6 tires all season, needed the two extra tires for the year and a new clip from lefthander because of a mid-season accident, we could of raced the season on 4. There is your cost savings for the racer. More cars , the more people in the stands. This is a win win situation.Originally posted by dd38 View Postmw68ss, I think that's the chance some of us are willing to take. Besides I personally think it will never happen because it will cut into Nerone's tire business too much. And he makes the tire rules/prices.
