  • FUPS Late Models this Saturday Night at NSS !

Late Models will battle at New Smyrna this Saturday night !!!

Steve Dorer opened the season with a convincing win at the Desoto Super Speedway in race one. Then young Harvard student Patrick Staropoli flew in to grab a big win at Auburndale in race two. Anthony Campi has strung together two top five finishes and leads the points coming to race three. Dorer sits second just one point back with youngster Jake Perkins third just 13 markers back. Jonathon Guy and Jesse Dutilly round out the top five in points.

Those drivers along with Daniel Webster, Brian Finney, Justin Larson, Travis Cope, Anthony Sergi, Tim Russell, David Rogers, Wayne Anderson and more will battle for 100 laps. Also on the card that night will be the Sportsman, Pro-Trucks, Super-stocks and strictly-stocks.

Pit gate will open at 9 a.m.with Tech opening at 10 a.m. Tire selection will be from 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. with practice beginning at 1 p.m. Qualifying is set to begin at 5 p.m. with an autograph session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Racing will kick off at 7:30 with the Sportsman going 25 laps, then the Late Models get it on for 100 laps, followed by the Super-stocks 25 laps, Pro-Trucks 25 laps and winding up the evening of racing the Strictly-stocks bang it out for 25 laps.

This schedule is just far too long. Your asking teams to be at the track for about 13-15 hours. Which means out-of-area teams will need at least 1'night of hotels, possibly 2.

For example, Anthony Campi has probably a 3 hour drive. They would need to leave home by 6:00 AM, and wouldn't get home until after 2:00.

These asphalt programs need to be condensed for the sake of the teams, the costs involved, and the overall health of the sport.

Most dirt shows can get the racers in and out in about 6-7 hours, not 12-14.

I'll be there with the Jake Perkins #59 team... all day if need be.

Never worked in a garage at a NASCAR race uh? But i know its not nascar. At least you get plenty of practice time and most teams are at the track the night before for practice as well...

            nss

I havent been to nss in a few years, but one of the main things I remember about the place is waiting in line at the back gate for an hour each time, waiting to give them my 25.00 bucks. I agree with Frasson118.

Some of you guys have to complain about everything. It doesn't say you have to be there at 9:00 AM, just said pit gate will be open. There is no practice till around 1:00 so I guess if your there by then you will be good. I myself like the idea of pits open early, that should help keep the line short at the pit gate. I love racing, 12 hours at a race track is fine with me...

Last week at Orlando, practice ended at 5:30. Remember, this was on a Friday when lots of us are working. Also, FASCAR just eliminated the last minute practice session. Who knows why? I guess it interferred with the Bandolero race or something.

The point is, race days need to be designed to be more user friendly for the competitors. Not everyone can spend 16 hours at a track. I also think (as someone recently pointed out on here) that an hour of silence right before the show does nothing to add atmosphere to the event.

David Rogers has not run one FUPS style race to my knowledge - is he really going to be there or was that more of a stretch?

I checked and Rick is not stretching it. According to one of his crew they are planning to go. Should be a good race.
