I heard this earlier also, but didn't want to say anything without any details.

I never met Lawton, short of getting an autograph once, but saw him race many times over the years. He was always spoken of highly when mentioned.

Best wishes to the Minchew family and all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

I spent a lot of nights sitting on the boards at Volusia watching him slug it out in late models. He was a good ole' fashioned, hard-nosed racer who had a lots of success. Sad to say I never met him.

I used to race against him in the late models at Saint Augustine Speedway. He was always friendly. Good, hard racer but always drove me clean. RIP buddy.

David, I saw him race at Volusia on dirt and I think he was in his 50's but not sure. He was a very nice man and you can always count on him being there with his Late Model. I am sure he raced other tracks but for the year I worked at Volusia, he was always there.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Seems like alot of people have died lately of heart attacks without ever having a history of heart problems. God bless his family.
