  • Sunday racing won't work???

Nobody told the SLM racers at 5 Flags in Pensacola. 31 cars right now, and Augie Grill still not there.

AND, this is a re-schedule from the Friday night rainout. Great to see them put this show on, which allowed these racers a 2 night show with Mobile running on Saturday night.

This also allowed Kurt Jett to make it, who was at OSW on Friday night.

Hopefully the fans will pack the place, and help to make the "no Sunday" idea just a memory.

I used to have a blast at those also. Good times grilling out, drinking beer, listening to the NASCAR race on MRN under caution periods.... I miss that atmosphere.

21 cars from mobile the night before...half the crowd as usual but plenty of people to make money...

That is an opinion, but lets assume its true.

I guarantee the competitors are happy to get the race in, and not have the disruption in their schedules later in the season.

I guarantee the fans are happy. After all, it sounds like a few thousand showed up on a glorious spring afternoon to watch a good race.

Did the track make money? That is anyone's guess, but since they had a half decent crowd and a pit full of cars, I wager that they did.

Compare all this with the loss of revenue, loss of momentum and loss of interest that comes with a rain out. Moral of the story: a Sunday rain date makes perfect sense for a well publicised and anticipated event.

Sunday racing should always be an option for big races, and considering Five Flags canceled early Friday I'm sure they made money by running it today. Since they shouldn't of had to turn the lights on they should have saved a good bit of money right there. The only issue I see with Sunday racing is the days where the track will schedule a 2 pm race when it's 95 degrees outside. Maybe it's just a generation gap thing , but I see that as problematic with the dang heat on some of the drivers and the fans.

1/2 the crowd is better than no crowd. They might not make as much as they normally would but turning a smaller margin is better than nothing. How many make up rain out races have you been to that were rained out? Racing Sundays when needed is a win for everyone.
