Obviously this is all done to benefit a charity. I won't be tuning in but many will, and many more may now tune in because Danica will be racing. So it's possible dirt Late Model racing will be exposed to many new fans. Maybe dirt late models will benefit as well as the charity. I hope it goes well and I hope she doesn't make a fool of herself.
This may also be Tony Kanaan's first time on dirt also. Ron Capps and Cruz Pedregon have run this before, but it's the only time of the year they take any turns.... plus they spent more actual competition time in one race than their entire season. If a Top Fuelers wins all 4 rounds to win the event, they will have spent around 16 seconds of track time.... That's slightly more than 1 lap at Eldora...!
I didn't know Tony ran last year. And the Pedregon/USAC connection also makes sense. I'm pretty sure it was his father, Frank Pedregon, who ran the USAC western series in the early 80's. Cruz, and brothers Tony and Frank wound up in NHRA Funny cars instead of following Dad to dirt track Midgets.
She is in the main because this is a "invitation only" event for charity. The other drivers are all stars from across the spectrum: Bill Elliot, Tony Kanaan, Cruz Pedregon, Ty Dillon, Kurt Busch, etc.. I've never bought a pay per view in my life, but I think I'll get this one, AND to invite Edm, Frass and any other non-believers to see my hero in action!! Its on a Wednesday too, so it won't interfere with our local racing.
A Wednesday night show full the all kinds of racing stars.....the creation of a promoter, not just a gate opener.
Rex , buying a ticket for this race to see Danica drive is going to be like buying an early Mike Tyson pay-per-view .
DON'T BLINK !!!!!
