  • How local short tracks can be more like NASCAR

There are a few things to be learned from watching Daytona last week...

1 What has created the most "buzz" during the last 4 days? JPM and the jet dryer! Its all I hear about; from fans and non-fans alike. So I think our local speedways should have a jet dryer circulating slowly on the track, during both yellow and green flag laps, just to make things more exciting. You have to give the people what they want!

2 Make all events 36 hours long.

3 Run the race until you get the "right" winner, and be sure to re-start the race, no matter what, if the "wrong" type of team will win.

4 Discourage harmless activities that allow drivers to connect with new and younger fans. "Tweeting" on a red flag for example; its free, its fun, its safe, but clearly it can't be allowed.

A couple of the races seemed like they took 36 hours. Does that count?

I know how Jimmy Johnson and David Ragan felt. They crashed on the first lap, and on the first night we destroyed our super late model.

I know how David Reutimann and Kasey Kahne felt. They came within a few laps of finishining the race, and I came within a few laps of finishing the week off in one piece in my Limited, only to be pushed in to someone elses accident.

I know how Jeff Gordon feels. I ended up on my roof one week after he ended up on his roof.

This is one Speedweek I want to forget.

I guarantee if the green # 10 had been in the lead at the time of the explosion tha trace would not have run another lap.
Nascar picks and chooses it winner as bad as Don Nerone used to.

I am surprised not to see a tech official checking ride heights and rivet spacing on the body panels during this down time.

Don you catch alot of heat for your spelling so I decided to grade your post. Out of 40 words that are 3 or more letters, you only misspelled 3 words. So you had a 92.5% success rate in your spelling. Therefore, the next time somebody gives you a hard time, tell them you are an A student by Florida standards ! My peace offering to you, it's that ez.

                    Don,
I have been around tracks you have run since I was a kid and I have seen you in action plenty of times. Seen 100 lap races cut to 75 laps just because of who was leading. Seen yellow flags thrown and 1st and 2nd get sent to the rear because your buddy was running 3rd. Seen you argue with racers who wanted to protest a car saying the car in question was legal when everyone around knew it wasn't. ( it was eventually proven illegal). Seen move over flag not be thrown due to the fact it give one of your buddies a chance to pass for the lead.
As far as me being a winner well I know I have no where near the best stats in the world but the name is Mike Wilson. Look me up from over the past 12 years. I have won a few here and there.
What I said was more of a joke than anything but if you want to take it serious so be it.

I was talking to Bone Man on the phone last year when he told me that he thought that some of the officals tryed to make it so there buddys would win.
That is what you are saying and you are so full of it. That is a excuse for the race not going the way you want it to go..I have worked with over 100 diff officals and will say that some of them did things wrong but never to change a race for a friend to win..
Now the worst thing that i know that i did was at Lakecity when i missed a driver go a lap down and he won the race and ill never get over that one.. I told the other dirver that he should have been the winner and he took it like a man..No names. Any other ones but that one were just the way the race went..You said it was a joke...Its not a joke to me and i hope you get the job some time and give it a try..
I sleep just fine at night knowing that i did the best i could for the majority of rhe racers threw the years and if you were one that sliped threw the crack then...O WELL. grow up..

How about a Speedfest race at Lakeland a few years ago? Started raining about lap 85. Management, Don Nerone included, allowed the racers to drive under caution, in the rain, another 16 laps or so, until the laps reached 101 before throwing a red flag. This way, the race would be considered "official", and therefore never needed to be completed. It was an outright and obvious tactic to cheat the racers and fans out if the chance to see the 2nd half of the race. I was so pissed off, I left... and so did Speedfest. The race was pulled from that track, and the Sunbelt series was not part of any future runnings of the event.

It wasn't a manipulation to pick a certain driver to win, but it was a manipulation of race control to cheat the fans and drivers. It was SOOOOOO obvious, I told some friends about lap 90 that it was gonna go down like that.... and it did.

I also have a Dick Anderson story, where the favoritism and race control pulled SEVERAL things that ensured Anderson would win. It was so apparent that the fans started booing every call that was in Andersons favor... and there were many. You may have pleased your friend, but you sure pissed off the paying customers. Even Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were pissed....

Think that i wasent the race director for any of those races (speed fest). It was in the hand of the northern groop. You are right it was the last speedfest and we did not want to do it with them anymore Jerry per Mr Martino..
The Anderson statement i dont get?? Did you make that one up..I thing the only one that has been Blacked flaged more than anderson is jason boyd
I took enough money from dick in one year to buy a new car and i still like both of them and yes i call them friends.
It gets harder to be nice to you when you blame everything in the world on the officales that are giving there life to the sport and you give your mouth.
Grow up and get another life.
Now i hope that is the end of that.
Don i must have done it 62
