Heres to you pal..... Its one thing to tech a car but to personally insult, pick on and walk all over a little guy is another.

Hey Ricky Brooks

He has been constantly picking on a driver and his car all week. Not for tech issues but for its appearance and lack of funding. He has been holding his own all week against the high dollar teams and I guess he is not supposed to do that.
Last night he was told on pit road right before the race he had to start in the rear because his tires were not in the system. He got these take offs from David Rodgers which were originally bought at the track back in October.
This was the final straw that broke him, he lost his composure flipped Ricky the bird and was told by Ricky boy to park it.
I had a lot of respect for Ricky as a tech guy until this week. Seeing the way he was chumming up to the money teams and literally disrespecting the small budget racer has changed my opinion.
I was under the impression his job was to tech a car, not scrutinize a person.

When did Brooks become Competition Director? As far as I know, a Tech man deals with Mechanical issues. When it comes to the human element, wouldn't that be another persons job??? Am I wrong here?
It sounds like this driver got the shaft like Bruce Everett got a few years ago. Ran all year long at OSW and NSS, wins the points, comes to Speedweeks, and is told to bring his car back for the regular season. It was embarrassing to the speedway that this low-buck, beat up, and frankly ugly car was their track champion. They didn't want the rest of the racing world to see that.
Bruce told them to shove it, and no longer supported the weekly shows, and did some traveling instead.

Also he was comming to the speedway and picking up the usea tires 50 each week and selling them for the expence of racing .
The tires werent avalable so that is why he quit going.
He had a new car and engine but never used it. after his dog passed he wasent having any fun!!
I gave him parts and bought him tickets to lakeland and orlando desoto
One of the best guys ever. He had no bones with the track. That was before i worked there but i talked to Bruce a lot.
May he rest in peice..

Yes he did run his new car several times. Ran into him one nite at the Steak & Shake at 75&44. I ran Inverness that nite and he was coming back from running Ocala (still was asphalt at the time). He looked very bad, but was having fun and got to enjoy his "New Car" a few times before he passed. I believe he bought the car from Lee.

There's two different pieces here. The picking on and the starting in the rear.
The picking on is a HIGHLY subjective thing, was he kidding around, was he just being a d1#k? Who knows - probably not me, you or perhaps even the driver. If I was an underfunded team at an event like this, I would probably be more sensitive to those types of comments as well. The same ones that if said to another team probably would have been laughed off. Like calling a skinny girl a fat ass vs calling a fat girl a fat ass - playing with fire either way, but one will hurt some feelings.
The tire deal, if it was a rule, you can bet it will be enforced. If it is a made up rule on the spot - then I am with you. But - you can bet if he threw out Nasse in victory lane for .25 inch clearance, he would enforce a tire rule that just put someone to the rear. I dont have a problem with that.
Once it escalated to berating the official - well, then you get what he got.
My point here is not to exonorate Ricky Brooks, because maybe he was out of line, but that there was some "speculation" mixed in with the things that actually occurred.

My slm was teched when we arrived for the first time Friday by Ricky and passed with no problems. We had takeoff tires purchased from Harold Crooms that I believe came off Jeff Scofield's car. We got there late and missed all of practice, so I asked if we might get a few hardship laps. He said no, there was no time, so my practice was my qualifying laps. Ricky was professional and courteous in my only dealings with him.Joe Jacalone

I wasn't trying trying to point out a right or wrong, just questioning who exactly had the authority to DQ him. In basketball, if you told the time keeper to F' off, he couldn't toss you out. But, if he told an official what was said, most likely he WOULD be tossed.
I like Ricky, and I also like the driver in question... it just sounds like it could have been handled a lot better by both sides. This was a spot where a neutra party should have gotten involved, listened to both, and asked both sides to chill out and go racing.
