  • Volusia Night 3

Well, it was more of the same from the car count/racing perspective, the track blacked over from top to bottom somewhere around the B Main for the Sprints. They were also running a special last night where you could take home as much the track surface as you wanted provided you carried it on your skin or in your lungs! Holy dust bowl it was something.

Dollansky made a helluva opening lap move on the high side in 1-2 to pass 6 cars up to second. Eventually he took first and it was over. Lots of racing all over the track as they searched frantically for grip.

Tony Stewart Racing and Kasey Kahne racing seem to be struggling a bit. Darrah was pretty quick and Kinser had some speed but other than that = they were not a factor.

Mods were OK, lots of action, but it wasnt super entertaining.

Great crowd, decent racing and good food.

MY PET PEEVE - I don't know why some people think that during an event that is obviously going to be butt to nut and cheek to cheek that they need to bring their friggin stadium chairs into the stands! WTF - We got to our seats last night to find the Minnesotan's in front of us with what looked like lawn chairs damn near touching our seats from the row in front. I decided to welcome them with a couple of knees to the ribs as I plopped my 6'4 240 lbs down behind them. Then I loudly said to them that wow their aint much leg room back here what with the lawn furniture up here and all. After much back and forth, i decided to be the bigger person figuratively as well and move over to the top of the stairway as they were open too.

RACETRACK OPERATORS - Please ban these damn things from your special events - or - make the stands big enough to accommodate them. Espcially the big square backed ones with armrests. Five Flags took a step in that direction, though not a complete ban.

Oh well, enough dirt for me until the Late Models arrive - up next is NSS - can't wait. Hope they dont lose any more in practice today.

Well... I just had to bite the bullet and take advantage of this incredibly strange, but great weather and go back again Thursday...
Track was really messy but there were several grooves... Sat in turn one (pits) and definitely needed a shower when I got home... Sprints were actually a bit more competitive last night, especially in the heat races...
Have to disagree on the Modifieds as their show was really good... Great race in that one heat between Kenny Schrader and Buzzie Reutimann!! Two old dudes going at it! By my count there were 20 races and still done by 11:30... They ran 8 heats and 4 B-Mains for the Modifieds.... Had a chance to chat with Danny Smith... I met him for the first time when he was just getting started and had his car at Bob Luscomb's shop in Orlando during Winternationals... probably 1977-78... I kidded him that his and Steve Kinser's longevity in the sport is due to all the cigarettes they smoke!! T-Mac had a better night... I noticed he is one of the nicest guys in the pits... he'd talk to anybody and seemed to be enjoying every minute of it...

Yea, the mods were an oddity to me, there was plenty of action, maybe i just reached m mod limit. The Buzzy/Schrader battle was a good one, both fought especially hard.

I now have to prepare myself for slow caution claenups and endless caution laps for lineup issues...vsp did another great job of running the show, hope nss can be in the ballpark..

The Modifieds use the Raceivers that help make the show very fast... I also like the group qualifying/heat idea... Can you imagine what time we'd get done if they bored us single-car qualifying 77 of them things?
