February racing has at last cranked up for me as I visited BRP last night for the OWM and Thunderstock show. Aside from great company and the outstanding weather (has it ever been this warm for winter racing?), there was a lot to like about the show last night.
Parity has its place in racing, but it is also cool to watch a dominant car take on the whole field. In last nights Thunderstock feature, there was a crash on the first lap that sent Davey Kinsey to the pits with a flat. He had won the feature on Thursday and Friday, so now he restarted in the back and marched steadily to the front, eventually taking the lead with just a few laps to go, and after a spirited battle. Good race guys!
We got a kick out of two cars in particular. The #4C was loosely assembled with body parts of all different colors: fenders, doors, quarters and roof had all been replaced. possibly several times, and nothing was painted. This guy was not slow, in fact he won the B main, but he was pretty wild and managed to knock off a fender and door in the feature, and run the last 10 laps with a flat on the right front! We also liked watching the Wood Brothes look-alike #21. It was a big Ford and the driver ran the wheels off of it, and would take a pretty unconventional line when passing. Looks like a fun class!
The UMP moifieds went 50 laps, and that was a good one too. Especially when David Reutimann, Ivenent Lloyd and race winner Kyle Bronson chased each other through the heavy lapped traffic.
A two division show can be just fine. Even though the car count was down a bit over previous years, there were still two solid fields and a night of good racing.
