  • Which Race???

Racing question: If you had but one race to go to at East Bay, Bubba Raceway Park, Volusia, New Smyrna and North Florida during Speedweeks, which race would you most want to see at each track. I need to cover each track for my website but want to know which night has the best race.

Hi Jane. I'll take a shot of giving you my choices. Ya know I'm partial to Sprints, but I'll try to be objective. I'm not aware of NFS having anything for Speedweek. You might want to try and stop by The Bull Ring which is near the Ocala track. Ya know, do a twofer. billy

Ocala-----------USAC Wingless Sprints (we don't get them here)

Volusia---------Big Block Mods, & LM (again, we don't get the Mods here)

    East Bay-------LM

    NSS------------Winged Sprints (See Rex run)

      Jane...

New Smyrna! Awesome racing. The racers of yesterday are there with vintage cars and lots of memorabilia...The Richie Evans memorial race... its just a great day and night. wish it wasnt so darned far away. if you want alot to write about that appeals to all kinds of racers and fans, then this is the place to go... JMO.. ;-)
Nothing against any of the other tracks. i just think this event is really special. so many many things you can cover. I miss having Jack next to me interviewing the drivers of years gone by. We had so much fun... Im sad to hear this is the final one but i understand how difficult and expensive it can be. Jerry has done an awesome job... ;-)

Without question, the USAC shows at Bubba's. The best racing I've ever seen.
Next the LM shows at East Bay although I believe the LM will be better at BRP this year. And I agree with Volusia's LM and Big Block Modified show. I just wish I could get there to see them.

Carol.... Thanks a million for the kind words. It is a LOT of work to put this together... and worth every moment of it....!

Other than being biased towards New Smyrna that week, an event I always loved to see, but has gone downhill in recent years, was the King of the 360's at East Bay. It was great seeing Outlaws, All Stars, USAC, ESS, PA Posse, the East Bay regulars, etc..... all on equal terms. They had great fields of cars (63 a few years ago) great competition, and some damn fine people I couldnalways count on sitting in the top row near turn one, including our own Billy Badd.

More recently, the DIRT Mods and Dirt LM's have put on some outstanding races.

Of all the things I've seen as a race fan, one thing I've missed out on is Wingless 410 Sprints on Dirt. The upcoming shows at BRP really auve me drooling, and hoping I can make a trip there for a show.

Any way around it, Florida is the racing capitol of the world for a month, and I wouldn't trade places with anyone in February...!!!

Well with me being in a wheelchair, I need a place to see the races, so I got to say East Bay because they have the best handle cap section that I know of. However I haven't been to Volusia, New Smyrna and North Florida in years so I don't know what kind of a wheelchair section they have. I do know Auburndale doesn’t have one; however, they do have great parking for people in wheelchairs.

Talking about parking, Auburndale has people directing fan in the parking lot and that’s awesome. East Bay doesn’t have anybody but they need people out there badly!!! East Bay has wheelchair parking but you got to get there early as hell to get one, because they don’t have that many.

I was planning to go to BRP last year but they don't/didn't have a handle cap section last year. But they said they are working on one right now so when they get it done I'll go up there and check out the racing.

But for the racing itself I love the open-wheel modifieds on dirt. I don’t know why but they put on one hell of show every race during the Winternationals. Maybe it’s because they don’t have the house power like the LM or the down force from a wing on a sprint car.

So after saying all of this the modifieds on dirt are the one thing I can’t wait to see the most, then the latemodels and then the sprints without wings.
