PROMO VIDEO
Race video from last year's Shootout
If you are on the east coast of Florida this coming weekend, and are looking for something fun to do, consider coming out to the Martin County Kartway in Hobe Sound, FL, for the 4th Annual South Florida Shootout.
This 50-lap race utilizes a format that includes 3 qualifying heats, a last chance race, and a 50-lap feature with a 10 minute break at the 25 lap mark. In addition, at 2:10pm, each driver will be introduced on the starting grid, before the command to "Start Your Engines" is given.
Heat Races roll off at 12:30pm. Each driver draws a pill, to determine his/her starting spot in one of the three heats. Each driver must earn his/her spot in the Shootout starting lineup. As a result, the heat races are always entertaining.
The Last Chance Race begins at 1:30pm. All drivers will be called to the front stretch at 2:00pm, with the 4th Annual South Florida Shootout taking the green flag at 2:30pm.
If you have young (or not so young) person in your family who thinks they might like to get involved in racing, this is a great chance to expose them to the sport of karting. Cost to enter the grounds is $10 per person, and allows you unrestricted access to the pits, grid area, and bleacher area. The youngest competitor in this years race will be 14, while the oldest is in his 50's.
Florida Pro Truck and Late Model Driver Ricky Moxley is the Martin County Kartway Track President, and his daughter Taylor will be one of the competitors in this year's Shootout. (There is a big announcement coming tomorrow night regarding Ricky and his 2012 plans with the Nascar Camping World Truck Series!)
Former competitors in the South Florida Shootout include: 2010 ARCA REMAX National Champion Patrick Sheltra, and current Florida late model racer Dustin Dunn.
This years field will likely include former Pro Truck and current late model racer Barry Bartlett III from St. Petersburg, and current Legends Car racers Darin Coker and Chase Fitzgerald.
