Defined Transmission Rule & Tire Procedure for FUPTS announced !
Orlando FL - 1-16-12 - After a month of research and work the Florida United Pro-Truck series has announced a transmission rule for the series for 2012 and beyond. They have also announced the tire rule and procedure for this season.
" We have been working to come up with a rule, that would be fair, not cost drivers to much to fix and keep the costs from going father up. We feel we have done that with help and cooperation from several folk who want to be anonymous and JW Transmissions. JW has cooperated totally since the charity 200 event in December when a JW transmission was dq'd in the Charity 100 pro-truck event. They have admitted that according to the rules in the rule books we were using as well as other tracks there transmission did no meet the rules. So we then worked to collaborate info on transmissions and find out what all can be done to help, but also what will not be allowed going forward. We also have found that transmission built by them have been taken to other facilities and work done such as extra drilling to lighten the transmissions. So going forward there is a procedure to mark and insure the transmission on their build alone. If the transmission is taken anywhere else and anything is done we will know. The rules listed here are the rules for any transmission that races, these things can be done by your transmission builder. But they must be followed to spec. If your transmission is different or has been modified by another place, you need to get it right. One rule that will be given time on to replace is the hollowed output shafts. After research we have found that along with the 250 series transmission, there was also drilled output shafts in some 350 transmissions. We weighted them and have found a variation of only 1-3 ounces. But the rule is now solid output shafts only, however if you have one right now we will log this and you will have until the 2013 season to replace these, or if you have your transmission rebuilt you need to replace it.
Besides that item you transmission needs to be to the rules and specs shown below" stated series director Rick Bristol.
Transmission:
a. Only GM Turbo 350, Ford C4 or C6, and Chrysler 904 or 727 automatic transmissions allowed with following exceptions. No drilling or lightening on the transmission or interior parts except the following items for oiling purposes.
Front Planetary Reaction Gear per spec – see tech for spec sheet.
Sun shell cover (must be a solid stock type) may be drilled at back per spec – see tech for spec sheet. ( No big hole sun shells allowed).
b. Must have all forward and reverse gears working. No modifications.
c. GM Turbo 350 may use 2.75 low gear - 1.57 second gear option. No turbo 200/250 parts may be used in 350 transmission.
d. Replacing thrust washers with bearings ok.
e. No aluminum or billet parts allowed in transmission.
f. Removal of Governor ok.
g. Manual shift valve body permitted.
h. Reverse shift pattern ok.
i. Torque convertor must be minimum diameter of 10” and working.
j. Transmission coolers with fans ok. All cooling lines must be steel braided with screw on fittings.
k. Safety Bell Housing and/or flexplate shield ok.
l. Solid output shafts only, no drilled, hollowed shafts. (If you have one now, we will allow you to make the change the next time your transmission is repaired or serviced). Will not be allowed in 2013 series.
m. JW Transmissions,TCI Transmissions or others allowed as long as they meet these rules.
n. Drive shaft: Steel only, must be painted white with truck number on it.
We will have the spec sheets we mentioned available by Friday the 20th. we can e-mail or fax them to you
We hope will see this was not a rash decision, we really took time looking in to it and trying to make the best decision for everyone.
I also want to let you know that because of all the issues and in trying to work for the betterment of our series and the rule for these transmissions JW Transmissions have signed on as a series contingency sponsor. They will give a $50 certificate at each race, that will be drawn from the finish of all the drivers at that race. The certificates can be saved and used for a purchase of transmission or torque converter. They also will be giving away a brand new fully prepared transmission and torque converter to a driver from a drawing of the top 10 in series points at seasons end. Thanks to JW transmissions for cooperating and stepping up for the series.
Also we want to introduce the tire procedure for the series. At race #1 March 24th at Desoto Super Speedway you will be allowed to purchase 4 tires, they must be done the day of the race. We will then log serial numbers. At each race following you will only be able to buy 2 tires again they must be purchased the day of the race at the track. Each time we will log them. If you do not buy tires at race #2, does not mean you can bank them you still can only run two new tires per race. must use 2 of the previous races logged tires. If a driver does not race race #1 and shows up at race #2 - #5 in fairness to those racing the entire series thay can not purchase 4 new tires they may only purchase 2 as per the rule. They must run older tires and those will be logged as well.
At Race #6 we will again allow you to again puchase 4 new tires and the process will be the same for the rest of the season. We may announce a different rule for the road course race after we make some determinations. That will be announced in advance so you all have time to plan.
There will have a new left side tire, number info to come soon. The rights will be the S650 used last year. The tire test showed that with the use of this bit softer left side tire it helped the rights last longer. This will be the same at all the tracks.
Your officials team will be Series Director / Race Director Rick Bristol, Techman Carl Green, assistant tech and registration Eric Reynolds.
If you have any questions please call Rick Bristol 407-497-0448, for technical questions call Carl at 863-614-4517 best time is in evening after 6. If you call during the day leave him a message and he will return it at lunch or after work.
Registration forms are on line, please fill them out and send them in alng wth your $75 registration fee. Your numbers are reserved according to the order we receive the entries.
