  • Great American Stockcar Series?

    http://www.gasstv.com/

Was flipping through TV channels when I got home from work last night, and came across Late Models racing at Iowa. These guys run on road courses *and* oval, with a spec-type Late Model. Apparently, the cars are maintained by the series. The series name is "GASS" - Great American Stockcar Series - so I decided to look 'em up and see what they're about:

"Great American Stockcar Series drivers are a diverse group of men and women from across the country who share a passion for highly competitive auto racing, without the associated costs or time commitments of managing their own race team.

Participants in the series drive identically prepared high performance late-model style stock cars. The 26 machines in the GASS field are powered by Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge race engines and are meticulously set-up and maintained by the GASS pit crew for changing track conditions and driver preferences.

GASS also enjoys a partnership with FOX Sports Net, and all races are broadcast nationally. We are busy finalizing the expanded 2012 event and television schedule, which promises to be even more exciting and competitive than 2011.

If you want join the the GASS team, all you have to do is be 45 or older and have the desire to compete. No previous experience necessary. The GASS team takes pride in providing a fun, fair and competitive racing experience at some of the premier racetracks in the country.

If driving a race-ready stock car appeals to you and you would like more information or a follow-up from our Marketing staff, please complete the Driver Info section of the Contact Us page."

Looking at the "Drivers" page, ol' Herschel McGriff and Marvin Panch are but two of the drivers in this series.

Bring a little cash with ya - one event on an oval will run you $4,500, while one road course event will cost ya $5,500. The entire 8-race season will run you $37,000, while a "pre-paid season" (whatever that is) costs $33,000.

For 2012, the TV schedule has been increased from 1/2-hour episodes to full hour-long shows. Check 'em out on your local FoxSports affiliate Tuesdays at 5:00pm EST.
