    Congrat's to Aric!!!!!

Nationwide Series standout will pilot the famed No. 43 Ford Fusion in 2012
    01.04.12

CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 4, 2012) – Richard Petty Motorsports announced today that Aric Almirola will drive the legendary No. 43 Ford Fusion in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition beginning in 2012.

Almirola has made 35 starts in the Sprint Cup Series, his most recent stint coming in 2010 when he finished the last five races of the season in the No. 9 Ford. During the final race of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Tampa, Fla., native posted a career-high, fourth-place effort. Almirola drove a JR Motorsports entry in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2011 and capped off a successful season with a fourth-place finish in the championship point standings.

“One of the things I am most excited about is to have the chance to drive a car as iconic as the No. 43,” stated Almirola. “There is so much history surrounding that number and to have my name above the door will be really special for me.

“This is the first real opportunity I’ve had to drive in the Cup Series full time,” continued Almirola. “Last year the No. 43 team had a lot of speed and was competitive on a weekly basis. Greg Erwin is a great crew chief and I’m excited to work with him. Everyone at Richard Petty Motorsports has a lot of enthusiasm and drive and I’m really looking forward to getting to work.”

Almirola will join a team that is poised to compete for a spot in the 2012 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Paired with veteran Crew Chief Greg Erwin, Almirola will get behind the wheel for a team that earned one top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 2011 en route to a 15th-place finish in the owner point standings.

“We are thrilled to welcome Aric Almirola into the RPM family,” said team Co-owner Richard Petty. “We feel extremely fortunate to have had a number of very talented drivers interested in joining our organization, but ultimately we felt Aric would be the best fit for the team and for our current and potential partners. We have had the chance to watch his progress for the past several years and we had success with him in the past. We are really confident in his potential as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver. We think Aric has all the makings to be the next bright star in our sport.”

Almirola began his racing career competing in go-karts before joining the open-wheel modified ranks in 2000. He was an original member of the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR)/Reggie White Drive for Diversity program. Almirola made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut in 2005 and began his Nationwide Series career in 2006, driving for JGR. Almirola drove a part-time Cup Series schedule for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in 2008 before heading back to the Truck Series and earning a runner-up finish in the point standings in 2010. Almirola drove full time for JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series in 2011.

As a student Asst. he was the best I ever had. For 3 years and that boy built FASTRUCK, Go Kart, Dragsters and still had a 4.8 GPA. He could be anything he put his mind to be.

    GOooo NASCAR GOooooo!!!!!!!

      So....

...this is what the bottom of the barrel looks like.

This is just the latest punctuation mark on the joke that NASCAR has become. I also agree with the havoc man. Richard Petty is famous. STP is famous. Hell, even Kyle is famous to a point. But that 43 has been a revolving door for a who's who list of underachievers and pocket racers for so many years now, I can't remember the last time they were considered a legitimate contender for...well, anything.

I also have strong doubts as to whether or not Richard even knows who will driving the 43 at any given time. He's been getting the reduced senior's rate at the Daytona Snack Bar for quite a while now.....I mean, the man has GOT to be about 98 or 99 by now....and I imagine he has got to be gettin' tired of carryin' the collective weight of RPM around on the strength of memories of his career

      I'm just sayin'....

Everyone has and have their view.

I know that Aj and Aric (Aric filled in the #8) had some strong runs in the last couple of years. And the Team car the #9 The TAZ MAN won at the Glenn last year and also has some strong runs all year.... Aric has a lot of talent and with a little luck it could been one of the stong Teams for 2012. This season will have a hard time topping 2011, but I for one CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

Who's your top Teams for 2012?????

Mamas don't let your babies grow up to drive NASCAR....

Favorite teams? My favorite teams actually race.

You won't find them perpetuating the farce that NASCRAP has become.

My favorite racers are just that: racers.
Not walking, talking (but non-driving), made for TV, sound bites for a boring series that lost it's competitve nature two decades ago and is struggling to hold on to the last bit of a fading demographic that they will no doubt try and squeeze the last remaining penny out of before eventually drying up and vaporizing into thin air.

Try not to confuse the two.

You have come to basically the same conclusion that I have, OJ. I got so mad the other day reading somewhere that NASCAR is making a huge push to go after the young crowd. They need to focus on racing and stop trying to be everything to everybody.

                Think what you will!!!!

Yesterday on the NASCAR Radio "Morning Drive" show Aric crew chief Greg Erwin was very excited about his ability to drive a race car. When he took over the #8 Bud car for Kasey Kahne he had some "GREAT RUNS". He also saw Aric drive the Hendrick car in practice in 2008 at Bristal and told the boy's "This Kid can Drive". He feeling they are one of the TOP TEAMS for 2012.

I hope he can win over a few of you guys that have lost the love for NASCAR.

The DAYTONA THUNDER will be steamed if your interested.
