  • Sprint Car Racer Randy Helton Passes

Forty-seven year-old veteran United Sprint Car Series driver Randy Helton from Palmetto, Georgia passed away suddenly Sunday morning. Helton nicknamed "The Big Dog" by his friends, apparently had a massive heart attack early Sunday morning. Helton's death was sudden and shocking news to his many friends in the racing community. "Randy was well liked by all his competitors and was well known for his sportsmanship and generosity." said, United Sprint Car Series Founder and President, Pete Walton. "Randy will really be missed because of his fun-loving nature and his great laugh. I have known and been friends with Randy for over forty years. He was a great friend and this is really shocking news. God bless and keep you! Randy Helton. We will all miss you". Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are made available.

That's a real shame. I've seen Randy race many times, at many places (VSP, East Bay, Putnam, Swainsboro, Oglethorpe, and prbably others), and it was always cool to see the Helton's Transmission car in the pits. Although not a big winner, he was a consistent top-5 runner wherever he went. Even though he was from Georgia, he had a fan here in Central Florida.

For his dedication to the USCS series, I hope there is a Memorial race (27 lap feature) in his honor. RIP Randy, and Best Wishes to the Helton family.
