  • front wheel drive racing

I had a great time last Saturday; it was my first night in a front wheel drive racecar on pavement. I'd never believed they would be as fun as rear wheel drive cars, but in fact this one was a blast. Yes, there are a few major differences (if the car gets loose you mash the gas and it straightens out!), yet overall the two kinds of cars are more alike than different.

The point I am trying to make to the rear wheel drive guys is to don't worry about FWD. If you can modernize your class rules to allow FWD, do it. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type, and it will allow different and more modern cars to compete. They still slide around, push and shove and race as well as RWD.

BTW: many thanks to Todd McCreary, a friend I made here on KARNAC, for the use of his potent Hurricane/Strictly Stock car.

    Sounds like a blast BoneMan.

Sounds like a good low buck class.

one complaint the big / mid size RWD guys make is that they can't keep up with these smaller / lighter FWD cars. a big part of their problem is the absolutely craptacular suspension setups they were given by the factory.

i would like to see the "no camber, no caster" rule gotten rid of for the entry level class and i think that would help the mid-size RWD cars compete. the smaller cars are almost all strut suspensions and have very close to no "factory adjustment" even possible. somebody with a mid-size metric 5 liter car just needs a handful of shims in the front suspension and it would help them a bunch.

trying to compete with us with anything less than a 350 is a waste of time if you can't adjust the suspension and that's starting to be seen in the cars that are ( and maybe more importantly, are NOT ) showing up to enter these races.

keep the aftermarket camber plates and control arms and such illegal, otherwise the FWD cars will have just as much camber as the RWD cars and you're back to square one.

something else, Strictly Stock is supposed to be for people to learn how to race and prep their cars and such. suspension adjustments are the next best thing to free and yet no one in the class is being allowed to see what various changes do to the car.

making them buy a Mini or Super Stock without ever giving them a chance to learn how to do suspension setup is counter productive.
