  • Punta Gorda Speedway announces the 2012 Goodyear Super Late Model Challenge series

Punta Gorda Speedway is happy to announce that in 2012 Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is our track tire. They also will be returning for the 2012 Super Late Model Challenge series as the primary sponsor along with 2 associate sponsors to be announced at a later date. At this time we would like to thank all of the Super Late Model drivers and crews that participated in the 2011 Goodyear 6 pack series. We would also like to announce that Goodyear tire was so pleased in car counts in the 2011 series that in 2012 they have decided to sponsor an additional 6 races renaming the series "Goodyear Super Late Model 12 Pack” series. There will be more details to follow but we wanted to get our dates out to the race teams to be able to plan accordingly. I noticed that when I saw the schedule. I also applaud PGS for doing it. Makes a lot of sense to me.

It's like two short racing seasons, spring and fall. I think I like it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out. It will help car counts at other tracks because die hard racers will travel but it will give local racers some time to work on their cars and save a little money. Thumbs up PGS !

          I trust Kevin...

I have seen so many awesome changes at PGS and the stands are pretty full as well as the pits. He is doing something right! I think closing down in July and August is so smart. Its too hot, people on vacation, RAIN, and it gives the drivers a chance to work on their cars and spend quality time with family and friends. Great idea.
Kevin isnt afraid to make decisions and he isnt afraid to make changes if things dont work out. I trust him. He is a very successful businessman. WTG PGS!

East Bay still does it. July,August and first of Spetember they run like 3 nights and one of those is a Crash A Rama type show. PGS is the best asphalt track around in my opinion cause if traveling didn't cost so much now a days we would race there alot.

Good Job and Good Luck PGS.

                I also

like the idea of closing in the summer. I heard of this Idea and like the fact that they are willing to try.

                  Please be clear

                  Greg,
You are listing this as a Super Late Model 12 pack. Does that mean it is pure SLM rules (2700 with no weight breaks for the LLM and Crates), or is it the same old combined rules. You need to be clear on this.

                      Dave,

There have been no rule changes in our Late Model program, but Bobby Kykendal our tech man 941-627-0592 will answer any questions you have. Evenings are better to get him. Thanks, hope you can make it over for all of them.
