I think East Bay and Volusia average somewhere between 65 to 80 cars for their speedweeks. Now factor in family and pit crews for each car, let say in a perfect world, half go to Ocala and half go to East Bay. At the most, that will be somewhere around 40 to 45 cars at each place. I think East Bay starts out on Monday at 5,000 to win and it goes up each night. The last night is 12,000 to win, if they lose half the cars and half the crowd each night, they are going to take it in the shorts. They do not run any support classes that week. Everything depends on how many late models pull thru the gate. I just don't understand why Ocala could not have set one of the first two weeks in Febuary to run their Late Model show. Unless, they have a plan to be the only dirt track in Florida. A monopoly is not good thing for the consumer. Do you really think the purses at Ocala will stay where they are, if they are the only show in town? I highly doubt that will happen. That 1,700to win will probably drop to 800 to 1,000. Every business needs competition.

Different sanctions will make a difference. A lot of cars didn't run Volusia and East Bay both in the past. There was some cross over but not to the extent I think some of you believe. Like Frasson says, now some cars may come knowing they will have a chance to race and pick up some bucks. BTW, don't forget speedweeks doesn't revolve around Florida. Golden Isle and Waycross both have stops on the way down. You have to consider their scheduling also. Yeah, I would have rather seen the track run on an open week so the best would all be there. I don't think the stands would hold everyone though. They have UMP rules so they had to schedule with the UMP organization which is running at Volusia. Why would they schedule a week earlier and then leave an open week of no racing, for the UMP guys, between their date and Volusia's, even if they could? Many of these guys only spend a few weeks down here and not the whole month. Just the way I see it and I have no inside knowledge.

When Bubba opened Ocala he promised to have the track everyone would want to race at and he did state several times his intentions were to be the only dirt track around. He stated several times that he didn't need to make money with his track so it would be heaven for the racers and fans. Since he has had the track he dropped the mini stocks to once a month due to low car count. Threatened the 4 cylinder Bombers if they didn't bring more cars he was dropping them. And also he raises the front gate whenever he has a special show which is also something else he said he would not do. The reason for him doing this was because it was not profitable the way it was. If money was not a concern to him then why do any of these things. Since his car counts have steadily dropped in Late Models and Hobby Stocks since he has opened I am interested to see if he will continue to pay out the big dollars on a regular basis. Bubba thought that money and money only would win over every racer in the state but i think he forgot that drivers for the most part are loyal racers and race where they want if they feel they are being treated well.
As far as the Winter National thing Bubba is not going up against Eastbay. He is going up against the Lucas Oil Dirtcar Series. Eastbay is just the venue. Not sure why you would want to do that but I do agree with Frasson that there is a good chance actually more cars will show up for the shows.

Exactly mw68: Eastbay will have all the Lucas guys that want to run for points because that is the start of the Lucas season. Also Lucas oil also changed there payout where the minimum a race will pay is 10k, so I actually think ebrp may hurt brp for the week. Either way it will be good racing at both tracks!

I AGREE! who wouldnt go see if the grass was greener on the otherside? now that they relized it wasnt, its time to go home! the locals will stay, but if you live within 30 mins of the bay why would you drive an hr and half to watch a dust bowl and see 5 cars a night flip? i wish they would all work togeather so everyone has a place to race. bubba has said repeatedly he wanted to put the varnadores out of business, thats not gonna help anyone. i hope they all succeed and stay alive!

not in my opinion. he's greedy! and it has always been all about me with him! just by the way he talks and acts, if he had his way... there would only be 3 classes.. latemodel, sprints and openwheel mods.. thats not gonna work these so called time filler classes are what pays the bills. he says it best on his show " if you dont like me dont listen" well i dont agree with his act, so i dont listen! same go's for the track, if you dont like it dont go!
like somone said before in these post, whatcha gonna do when he's done playing with his new toy " ocala speedway"? he'll do good for awile then itll be back average just like it was before he came. we really liked ocala before the circus came to town. not so much anymore!

Bubba pays well and the cars show up. Bubba advertises and the stands are healthy. Bubba is running that track like a BUSINESS. That's the difference.

Here's the raw truth. Brp will continue to thrive with their locals and some out of towners in lower classes. Not many late models travel to brp from the south for the reason that brp local lm drivers have alot more motor than guys in the south. I think lower class cars will continue to travel for the big races.

The problem with Ebrp is that not many people travel to the track and if they continue doing people wrong as so many say they are doing, the locals will stop coming or stop racing. Thats where the problem lies. Brp hasn't taken any cars from ebrp except for some lower class cars when brp has big races for those classes. The main thing brp has done is they keep their locals from coming to ebrp in their off weeks, and I believe thats because brp pays 1750 and ebrp pays 800 for lm's. So if you lived up north why travel 150 miles plus race expenses to race for 800? Both tracks will thrive. Volusia will thrive again with the right operator!

                      Thats how the cookie crumbles...lol

Here is my IDEA . Where I am from lake Erie Area northern pa we have about 10 tracks within an hour we can race and 4 nights a week of racing. In florida we have not had anyone win national or reginal ump points or even be in the final top 10 in either because we race 1 night a week for points where the northerners get 4 nights a week to collect ump points. Are the tracks in florida caring about any recognition of us fellow racers at all? I think it the greed of most track promoters in florida that some of us have parked our 20,000 dollar race cars knowing that only track points for nationals are once a week in florida. with our weather here a rainout should be run the following day and we should be able to race for ump points at the least 3 times per week. I guess I should move back to pa to have a good shot at even more end of the year moneys. The availability to pick and choose the track at which to race should be readily available to us racers and the purses at Bubbas should be the standard at other tracks. They all are recieving sponsorship money from local business and telling those businesses they are supporting the drivers at which if you ran Putnam, volusia or hendry you would know that what they say they were going to do they always figure a way to shaft us show makers. I haven't raced in a year at anyone of the tracks and probably will be giving this year a chance at Bubba's. I think all of us racers need to setup a meeting with the track promoters and let them know we pay in to UMP and we would like a chance here in florida to show the northerners who the real racers are and get that 3times per week they get to make points for UMP. If you think I am a retard then you need to read this again and understand the caliber of racers we would have with the option of 3 shows a week how good of drivers we could be.PRACTICE MAKES PERFECTION. SEE YOU ALL AT THE RACES. I AM AN EX-PRO HOCKEY PLAYER 21 years of practice took me there, now on to better things in life.ONE LAST THING...RACING IS NOT A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH < IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT.PRAISE GOD today and everyday.

Wish they paid that purse for asphalt late Models and Modifieds around here. They would be coming out of the wood work and I believe fans would follow.
