  • Is This Cheating

Hello if you were at BUBBAS sat. the late model feature was great. But did you notice the gentelman at the far end of pit grandstand with the 2 neon blue light sticks. He was signaling one of the 2 lead cars thru the entire race. The reason I go to dirt racing is NO RADIOS NO MIRRORS the decisions on the track are the drivers and his alone.I would like to think this still the case.seams to me smeone signaling the driver with light emiting devices is cheating .WHAT DO YOU THINK?

This is normal procedure for many of the classes. Several teams do this and many do it from the infield, others from the pit stands. Nothing new. They aren't using radios. All they are doing is signaling distance between the cars, etc. BTW, I'll add that several use lights or light sticks but others use their hands, gloves, etc. Look closely at the crew members in the infield the next time your at the track and you'll see a lot of signaling going on. Radios were eliminated from real racers to prevent blocking that the radios led to. Sarcasm meant for humor and nothing more.

I agree as a racer for the last 45 years I MYSELF have tried to tell my driver with hand signals and pit boards as to position on track. This method was never realy sucessful, but i can see where the use of bright blue lights in a pre determined point would be an advantage.I not only saw this crew member signaling distances between cars but also indicating to go low or high to me this indicates blocking.

          Absolutely not

          This is definitely NOT cheating.
It is called outsmarting your competition.
Until there is a rule that says "no blue glow sticks"
Or "no signaling of the driver in any way "
Then they are following the rule "no radios" TO THE LETTER

We used to run a long right front control arm on our Mustang mini at Sunshine so we wouldn't have to grind the slots on top of the upper strut mount. The rules said stock control arms. It was. just from a different year Mustang.
One night they decided to measure the top three from ball joint to ball joint. We were an inch wider than the other two.
They said we were illegal because they thought we had a T-bird crossmember in the car. We didn't. When I told the tech man why we were wider he made up a rule on the spot "Both arms have to be the same".
So.... next week we came back with a long arm on the left too. Now we were 2 inches wider than the competition.
But..... still legal by the rules.
The next years rule book had a new rule " Only 13 inch front control arms on mustangs"
Oh well , it worked for 4 years

If someone thought this would allow their competition to beat them then they need to rethink being a racer....I dont care if you have a "batman" spotlight in the sky sending messeges, outrun is outrun plain and simple. Find a different excuse to lose....JMO
You can educate the ignorant......but you cant fix stupid
