Southern States Lighting Sprints
will Crown a CHAMPION
As the Fall air turns cool, the leaves on the trees wilt and the dirt tracks around Florida began to close their gates on the 2011 season it is no different here at the Bullring of OMS and the Southern States Sprints Series. As of Saturday night Nov. 12 we will crown our very 1st CHAMPION. After a long season battle it has come down to 2 racers Darrin Davis and Sheldon Kinser Jr. Both are 2nd and 3rd generation drivers. Sheldon the son of the great USAC driver Sheldon Kinser Sr. who pasted long before his time and Darrin, grandson of Eddie Davis for the old Jacksonville Speedway Park and son of Wayne Davis who has spent most of his life tearing up the dirt tracks around South East mainly in the Lake City Fl. and Valdosta Ga. areas.
As the two take to the track Davis leads Kinser Jr. by a mere 27 points. With the point system that is in place where racers are awarded points everytime they take a green except hot laps this 27 point can be erased in a hurry. Kinser Jr. has been on a hot streak of late in quailifing getting the 25 points alotted for that along with winning his heat, a 10 point advanatage. But Davis has won 2 of the last 3 "A" mains which is 50 points, so yes Kinser can catch him and bring home the convetative Golden Eagle Trophy and the new Triple X chassis that goes along with the championship.
Less don't loose track of all the great racing that has taking place this past year with many different winners. The BIG money winner has to go to Kinser Jr as he sweeped every large purse that was put up by the SSLS. Kinser won the Easter 500 and The Battle along with the Triple X Mid-Seaon Championship with a total of 5 wins so far this season. Davis has been either real good or that bad, with a total of 7 wins so far. John "JT" Crowder driving his always green #30 picked up his 1st win ever earlier in the season. Dirk Miller in his Todd's Tomatoe's black # 1x picked up a win in only his 2nd time without the wing at OMS. Only a few short weeks ago a struggling Rob Feeney in a car that looked as if it was going to turn over on every corner recievied some much needed help from Wayne Davis, car owner, wrench, of the 92 of Darrin Davis and series director came over and did several major changes to the beautiful #13 and then went out and out run the field collecting his 1st win. New comer to the sport Scott"HOLLYWOOD"Krueger with Mr. Davis's help turning the wrenches on the Xpress Graphixx #81 picked up a very convincing win as he "SWEEPED" the night to get his 1 and only win this season. But when the SSLS put the wings on it has been all Eddie Moss Jr. in the ubtouchable red and black Moss Motorsports #8. 3 races 3 wins.
Even though the XXX Lightning Sprints's points season ends this Saturday night they are not done racing. Friday Nov. 18-19 will be a double show, winged Friday night and non-wing Saturday night then the season finally on Dec. 10...but the SSLS has been contacted by a couple of 1/5 mile tracks up in South Ga. to have a couple of races in Jan./Feb. and we are getting ready for our 4 to 7 day winternationals at the Bullring and a couple other tracks to be announced at a later day. So be sure to come out and support the only series in the south that is a wingless sprint car series the Southern States Sprints Series "LIGHTNING DIVISION"....
