  • Super Lates are Back at Punta Gorda Speedway This Saturday Night

This Saturday night its the return of the Goodyear Super Late Model six pack series #5 at Punta Gorda Speedway. It the first of the final two six pack series races for Super Late Models this month. To start it all off we will have open practice Friday night starting at 5pm, admission is only $10.00 per person. Then Saturday gates open at Noon with Super Late practice beginning at 2PM until 3PM with class practice starting at 3:15PM. The Goodyear points chase will come down to the wire with Wayne Anderson and Billy Bigley Jr within 10 points of each other and Steve Gill and several others within striking distance. The Pre entry list is already looking good with a full field expected. I will post the pre entry list later this week.

Also in action are the Sportsman, Road Warriors, Pro4, Fab4, SE Champ Karts, Dwarf Cars and the Cowboy Cadillac.

Tickets are still $10 for Adults, $8 for seniors and 12 and under are still free. Its the best 10 bucks you will ever spend for an exciting night of racing at the south’s track that too tough to tame.

Call early for a slab its going to be a full pit, 941-575-7223.

Thanks and we will see you at the races!!!

Well the Super Lates were in force tonight for practice, we have 15 in the pits already. Looks like Brian Blum our 2010 Super Late Champion, a hot shoe from the east coast won't make tomorrows race he loaded his car up after some engine problems and the same for Barry Bartlett, but Bartlett told me they will make tomorrows race but Blum's weekend is over early. Wayne Anderson looks fast as always, and Schofield was wrenching all night trying to get it where he wanted. Bigley, Williams, Jackson, Hart and several others look like they might have something for them. Going to be a good one can't wait.

The Blum team did not leave because of engine problems. They just wanted to run the car for a couple of hours. Since they have NO sponsorship, they cannot afford to race this year.

My apology to the 31 super late Brian Blum was definitely was not a motor problem, he was fast. They could not get the tire sponsor for the race and were not able to start. They are a great bunch of folks and have a very good car, it won a championship. Sorry about that guys.

Had a great night of racing, man the pits were so full we had to park some in the grass area, thanks to all the teams who were very understanding and made it work. We had a great crowd, the weather was great and the staff worked hard to put on an awesome show. Get ready South Florida its going to be a unforgettable 3 day event for our Thanksgiving Extravaganza in memory of a good man, Jack Smith he will be proud.

Yes, good show and nice work by Shelnut picking up the win.

I do have to ask the quesiton though, early in the event two front runners got together and spun out and they got their spots back calling it "a racing accident". Later in the show similar deal car gets into another spinning out and one car goes to the back of the back? What is the difference there, they were racing as you say?

Oldtimer. Glad you got to make it out to the track. It was an exciting night to say the least. Shelnut did a good job keeping his car under him to pick up the win. Congrads on the win Daryl, we'll get ya next time!!!!

As for the on track stuff. I don't know why those two both got their spot back. When a yellow comes out for a spin SOMEONE needs to go to the back. The biggest thing I saw was about 15 ill handling cars with frustrated driver just blatantly taking out other cars because they couldn't out run them.

On every restart in the first part of the race the leader would pull away anywhere from 10-25 car length lead over 2nd place in just a few laps. On a later restart 2nd place figured out he could not hold a candle to the leaders car so he blantenily dumped the leader in turn one on the restart. They should have parked the sore LOSER that he is for the rest of the year at PGS. I guess you cant expect any less out of him. Good job LOSER!!!

P.S. That's two races in a row that that LOSER dumped the same car. The last race it was a clean pass around the outside of the LOSER, cause his car was junk and all over the track, and he still dumped 'um. PGS needs to take control of what is happening on the track or we will have to. How do you want us to play. Is it, Boys have at it? We play by the rules but if nobody else is playing by the rules why should we???? WHY???

Yeah, I thought the same thing I can never recall seeing cars spin causing a yellow and nobody goes to the rear. It's always one or the other or both depending on track.

Oh well, we'll see what happens in the final coming up! Good luck!

I have noticed the same thing this year when attending the six-pack races. I have heard the announcer say "the track call is that it was just racing, so both drivers get their spot back" several times this year, but I find that confusing.

How can both drivers get their spots back, when they are the reason for the caution? I can't remember ever seeing this happen, repeatedly, anywhere else.

I would think this noncall promotes rough driving, and hard feelings among some, since it's not clear or consistent to people watching, whether someone is going to be penalized, or not.

Dustin Dunn was impressive. He pulled out to a big lead over second after each caution. Until he got hit from behind and suffered the damage, it looked like he was the one to beat.

Good racing again. Punta Gorda Speedway has been packed this year, and the whole facility looks great.

well, well, well I was waiting for dustin dunns shit talking to start....while you thought you were walking away with the race that "loser" was running about 70% behind you just riding. Once it looked like Shelnut was gonna get around Skaggs it was time for us to go. Who would dump the leader on purpose just to get sent to the rear? You got the lead back so whats your problem there hot rod?

The last time we raced together that your talking bout we dumped you that was far from a clean pass you made. You turned us off of turn 4 but my driver gathered it back up and you got to the outside. He wasnt happy about the way you drove him so he drove you the same down in turn 2.

Next time you wanna walk down by our pit running your mouth just come on up and talk. Im sure we can figure everything out. And you dont wanna start tearing cars up cause from the way looks you might run out of cars first. just sayin

                              God i love racing.......
