It was fun night indeed. Sprints was a hell of a show. Buses were ok too.

It was nice meeting Rick. Wish we could have a minute to chat, but he was in the middle of treak or treat.

We had thought about going over but have bad chest cold and didn't really trust the weather. Oh well, another year coming.

You missed a long but very good night Don. A ton of fans, the drivers once again were the stars of the night treating all the kids with candy at intermission and some great racing. Troy DeCaire won the sprint feature and even drove a bus in the school bus figure 8 race. Hope you get to feeling better.

Oh yea, the crowd was massive! I was being kicked and shaken by tall the people!

But the Sprints were absolutely amazing. They were going 3 wide without even blinking. Troy Decaire drove the hell of his car. He loved the outside. I don't know exactly where he started (somewhere in the middle) but he had a car and took off with it.

I also have some video of the bus race. If John will allow me, I will post a youtube link.

              Boneman's story from Desoto.

It looks like De Soto Speedway had a pretty successful night on 10-29-11! The TBARA sprints headlined a big show that included figure 8 busses, Outlaw Modifieds, antiques, along with a bunch of local classes and something that was certainly a huge hit with the fans, trick or treating on the track.

The night had two unusual highlights, but first a word about the racing itself.

Eighteen sprinters took the green in support of the TBARA. I have to give these guys credit, their field is filled with top line cars; none of the start and parkers, or any cars way off the pace have been running. Aside from one 50 year old rookie, their field is fast!

We had a big tangle after 1 1/2 laps that left Channing Conley's car on the roll-back, aside from that things stayed pretty clean, and when the dust settled Troy DeCaire parked the #68 in victory lane.

De Soto advertised a trick or treat session on the track with the cars and drivers. Let me tell you, the fans responded! There were hundreds of kids in costume who went from car to car to collect some loot. Everyone had a good time, and the track accomplished it in short order. I bet the whole thing took maybe a half hour to do, so a pat on the back for that one.

I couldn't exactly hear how it happened, but during trick or treat Troy DeCaire got drafted into driving a figure 8 bus later in the evening. I do know the crowd responded with a huge roar of support! I watched the bus race, and saw that Troy was strapped into one of the "short busses" that appeared to be owned by the track. He hung it out there for 25 laps in a bus that appeared to be a little under-powered, and was banging mirrors with the best of them.

I'll never forget meeting Troy at one of the "Little 500 Nights". He wanted to drive my mini stock, and I asked why a driver who runs sprints around the country would waste time in a mini. He answered that anything he gets in will be a learning experience, so I bet it was that same attitude, and maybe some old-fashioned showmanship, that found him entertaining the fans in the short bus. Either way, I thought it was pretty cool!

Now with one more race on the TBARA schedule, we have a near dead-heat for the point championship between my car owner Johnnie Gilbertson, and Shane Butler. Its all going down on Thanksgiving weekend!

Gotta thank my friend Ron McCreary for a day of fun, and nearly constant toil on his part.
