  • Do these guy's really need to cheat?????

I was just reading on Five Flags site that Bubba Pollard and Mike Garvey both got busted last weekend. Andrew (Bubba) for a bad cam and Garvey for lifters. I stayed up and followed the race on speed51 but they shut down before tech.

    http://5flagsspeedway.com/2011/10/09...-to-vanderley/

I just don't get. I have raced with Andrew for about 4 years now off and on. When he shows up he has the best of the best of everything. Andrew is coming off of 17 wins this year. How many did he win this year cheating? It sure makes you wonder. It is one thing to get dq'ed for something like left side weight at the end of a race but to have an illegal engine is another. That's just cheating. I just don't get it.

Steward Freisen won the big race at Syracuse yesterday. It paid $50,000 to win. They discovered he had an illegal fuel cell in the car during post race inspection. It held 2.5 gallons more than allowed. This is a race based on strategy and fuel mileage so the extra fuel was a decided advantage. World Racing Group decided to let him keep the win and fined him $25,000. If they had DQ'd him, they would have awarded the win to Billy Decker who drives for John Wight, a track owner who competes against WRG. So politics appears to have played into the decision. WRG saved themselves $25,000, the cheater got paid $25,000 and his name goes into the record book as the winner. Basically all the cars that finished behind Freisen got cheated, as did the fans.
I can't wait to see what they do at Volusia during speedweeks.

Just because something was found illegal in the engine does not mean they were intentionally cheating. Sometimes rules are misinterpreted by the engine builder. Unless the driver built the engine himself he may or may not know about every part in there.

I say ignorance is no excuse. Sometimes unfortunately. If its wrong, its wrong, period. Wether he knows it or not. This is why I say every built engine should be inspected by another builder. Also, how can a track let anyone win 8-10 races in a yr without some serious tech?

Engines should be checked by tech. Actually, it probably isn't right to let a competing engine builder inspect anothers' work. Ignorance may be an excuse but it's still illegal. He should accept the penalty even if if he doesn't know.

Yes i can definately see where it wouldnt be right. The only trouble is. So many times tech doesnt check it seems. Was just a thought, a way of making sure everything is the way its supposed to be, but you're right, it is techs job.

Like I heard Pee Wee Griffin say one night at Speedworld "You are either pregnent or your are not", reffering to a situation with his car.
