  • GA For Fair Tax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw Latemodel Series!

Oct. 1st & Oct. 15th are the last races of the season for the GA For Fair Tax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw Latemodel Series!

With only 2 races left there is a battle for the championship. Scott Smith and David Hodges Jr. are locked at 2 wins each. We have spoken with a few drivers who have made some "outlaw style" modifications and should be contenders in the last two races. The temperatures are cooling down but the action is heating up at the 4/10ths mile asphalt oval affectionately called "The Melon"! Both nights will be school nights for the local schools. Oct. 1st was the 6th of 7 races for the GA For Fair Tax / David Ragan Ford Outlaw Latemodel Series. David Hodges from Valdosta, GA set on the pole after qualifying with a time of 16.20. On the drop of the green flag Hodges jumped out to an early lead with Jason Bates from Gainsville, GA second and Steve Renner from Lizella, GA third. Early in the race Sammy Short from Hampton GA retired with power steering trouble. The battle for 2nd through 5th was intense between Bates, Renner, Jimmy Motes from Gainsville, GA, and Steve Barker from Hampton, GA. Steve Renner made the move to second which pushed Bates back to third, Motes tried the same move but made contact and spun. That moved Motes to the rear with Dusty Cone from Kathleen, GA moving to 4th and Barker still in 5th. Watermelon Capital Speedway has the "choose rule" which means all starts and restarts are double file. Renner and Bates decided they wanted the inside line on the restart which gave the outside to Cone. On the restart Cone jumped out in the lead with Hodges close on his tail. Just 2 laps in Hodges made the move for the lead and set sail again. Renner then clips the right side tires off the top of the track going down the back straightaway which turn his machine sideways. Renner locked up the brakes sliding to a stop but Dusty Cone couldn't make the move fast enough and clipped the front end of Renner's car ending his night. Cone was able to continue but was not able to be as competitive as before. On the restart it was all Hodges again as he pulled a 4 to 5 car length lead. At the end of the race it was Hodges first, Jason Bates second, and Jimmy Motes 3rd.
