PICS: World's Fastest 1963 Ford Falcons at Daytona

The GT-1 Falcons of Dave Machavern and Bill Riddell, built by Tommy Riggins at Riggins Engineering.

Tommy drove Dave's Blue #26 at Daytona last month and cut an incredible 1:46 on the test day. He put her on the pole for saturday race at 1:47 and won the race with Riddell coming in second.

The data from the #26 showed 203 mph in the tri-oval and that is after coming out of the chicane at about 95-100 mph.

Yeah, that would be cool. I kinda miss the creativity of the 70's in late model racing. For me the ABC body thing is boring. Wish somehow they could utilize the ARP Camaro's and Mustang's more and make them competitive.

I think our road race Camaro would look pretty cool out there as well.

There is someone running a super late with the new camaro body. Raced at Punta Gorda with the ARP camaro body. Looked nice. Thats what we are planning on running when we get ours built. I did a wedge body on a sportsman I sold with the camaro dirt nose and made my own roof pillars to resemble the camaro.

The aluminum was already orange on one side and white on the other. Bought the 4X8 sheets from Racecar Engineering.

Its funny, when the 61 Falcons were on the road I hated them, or ven the old Fairlane, now i'd LOVE to have one!

I'm in error on my photo... this was the 1961 Compact Car race at Daytona but the Falcons were 1960 models... Our family had a 1961 Falcon... the engine was about the size of a sewing machine and incredibly simple and easy to work on... Used very little gas but still had plenty of pep and room inside... I remember my dad traded it in for a 1964 Ford Galixie Custom... that was quite a change... like going from a PT boat to a battleship!

Yep its a sportsman, camaro ft clip with rear leafs. Sold to a fella who plans to run it at Five Flags. 64 Galaxie was a nice looking car, love some of the old Fords for racing.
