  • What's gonna happen to CMP?

Visited last night for the first time in a year. 5 superlates, 4 sportsman, 6 hobbystocks and a few in the crap classes that race for free. I hope Don and Sandy can turn it around somehow..anybody got ideas?

    Cmp

I know what you mean. Something needs to be done. I race at Columbia been racing there for almost 12 years. And I hope Don and Sandy will turn it around. I here about the things that Don has done and the thing's he wants to do. And they all sound good. Will it bring the cars back will it bring the fans back who knows. I hope it doe's. I do know why one reason that the cars have left cause of the PAY. Like I said been racing there for a long time so I know alot of racer's. I hate to see them leave but in life now everything cost more so if there is a chance to make a extra $25.00 at another race track some guy's are going to race there. I know one reason why the car count suck's in the class that I race in. Is last year the guy who did TECH let some racer's do what ever they wanted to the car's. So the guy's in that class left and went to other track's. See now they have a new TECH man and he is on his game. I have to say he doesn't let anything slide. I see alot of the guy's who run my class so I tell them to come back. But I really do feel if Don would PAY more and tell people the pay out's I do know alot of cars that would come back. We all know it take's racecar's on the track to bring the fans in the stands. Thank You for letting me say what I think.

I think you're right about the pay deal. Although no-one's making a profit out there, some guys are just tired of the low pay. I worked with three guys that were locals at Columbia that quit and went dirt racing down the road at North Florida Speedway because they paid better. The last time I was at CMP, there were TWO modifieds that showed up....TWO!

That's a shame. I used to go about twice a year for the big races because it's a haul for me. It's a neat little track.

But if I paid money as a fan to get through the doors and that was the car count...I think I would have asked for my money back.

From a fans standpoint, look at the results from this past weekend. 1 guy wins the pure stock and sportsman races and then races in the late model class, but didn’t win that one, his dad did. I don’t want to go watch the same family win every race every weekend. From a driver’s point of view, the rule changes cost them a few cars this season. Favoritism last year, real or perceived, has cost them a few cars this season as well. And I believe that the purchase of a black flag and instructions on it’s usage would help bring some folks back.

It might go deeper than that. I heard Bronson had a total of 25 cars this past weekend. It might be time to close, focus on big events, CRASH-A-RAMAS and reopen a few months down the road after some heavy promoting. I'd be calling every race driver I know and begging. I'd also be talking to the local newspaper about a story.

How many people could possibly be interested in paying "roll-back prices", ($10 a person) to watch 25 cars?

That's a $5.00 show at best, and even then Im sure I'd feel I got ripped.

Throw in the towel, cover it with dirt, lower the admission costs, and be prepared to sell a bunch of tickets.

You know what's REALLY bad? I paid $15 to sit in the grandstands. Left after 2nd feature...
