    First of all buckwheat

i do speak with some of the track owners and promoters. as far as a feeder division thats your opinion. As far as moving up to a late model yea maybe someday. I race a open w m full time and play with a sportsmen. I race at a track that has a very strong car count every time we race and sportsman is one of the bigger shows. We dont race every weekend the track alternates between LM and mods they also wrk with another track so they dont schedule on top of one another............hmm Go Figure......no armchair racer here.......live and breathe it. I think my sportsman on slicks would be cool ....hell if they did it for mods I would take part in that too.....Oh treaded tires and crates were meant to save us money........Does anyone think they have ???

Again, I am not talking about speaking with a few owners and promoters here and there, please re-read my post.

Have a meeting with all the owners in attendance at once about unifying the rules.

And yes, Sportsman are a feeder division period. Not an opinion, I don't know too many drivers that strive to become a Sportsman driver in their career/hobby.

So if one or two tracks have a good count in Sportsman and the others are struggling, then what makes you think there are enough cars to start a Touring Series?

              Sportsman Series

BW for you information there was a large car count when they ran the Southern Sportsman Series a few years back. And there is a set of rules under Florida Sportman Allaince. Rules are on Auburdales website. Where do you race? Also Punta Gorda is on Goodyears almost all other tracckss use hoosiers

                B.W.

I do agree with having plan and think this out and have the tracks all on the same page. It would be critical. I Just dont completely believe it would kill the division. You def. make some great points. This was just a question thrown out there...... and i kinda like the idea....not that its gonna get me to the higher ranks . But like the idea of a 10" slick and having the opurtunity to race at different tracks with the same rules. believe me they all have a diff. set of rules. one example is one track 58% left side and another 56%......Thats a big change .

If you put a sportsman on a 10" slick, it becomes a llm. Thats stupid. And treaded tires separate the men from the boys. Plus crate motor cars are at a loss on motor, most crate motor cars don't eat tires though, and if you can make them turn you're in good shape. Go figure.

                      Sportsman Series

OpenWM53 thats why i was really looking at the rules posted on Auburndales website; under Floida Sportsman Alliance and see if other track Owners would be ok with them

For those who say crate motors won't work because they can't be policed nor are they competitive, maybe you should take a look at the nesmith crate models! Over 200 cars are chasing point in the points series, and they put on a hell show 3-wide! You can check them out in DEC at eastbay, over 150 cars will show up to qualify and only about 1/3 of them will make it for the main races! Just my 2 cents?

My question would be, how is the Sportsman car count at Auburndale? I don't recall it being all that impressive. Why would everyone want to conform to those rules, if the locals aren't even doing it? Find a way to equalize out the cars based on what their local rules already are? Add or subtract weight, maybe allow some spoilers of various height, width or angle. Something that doesn't cost anything to speak of.

It would take a bit to tweak, and would need cooperation & patience from the racers. At least it wouldn't take a bucket load of money comforming to a new rule book.
