Track Sign In/ Line up Procedures XII
"1)...Sign in will be at the Pit Gate and must be done in person.
2)...Numbers will be pulled by the computer which will be your starting position for the heat race.
3)...After the heat race, the winner will go to the Pit Office and draw pills/straws for the number of cars to be inverted for the feature. This will be the feature line up.
4)...The winner from the previous week will start behind the same number of cars that he/she won in front of the week before.
5...If you are a winner one week and do not race the following week, or later, when you do return, you will start the race at the rear of the entire field.
    "

this is a vast improvement over last years procedure which penalized drivers who where doing well at the end of the year and were trying to catch the points leader. applied, it meant that they started almost every race behind the car that they had to catch and it led to sandbagging on the part of the points leaders. "gosh, i don't have to start racing till points 2nd passes me".

especially nice is the feature winner to back the subsequent week with a penalty for trying to get around the invert.

the only tweak i'd like to see to these yet is a penalty for contact in heats or practices. there's way to many guys from Sportsman to SLM who are smashing up cars before we ever get to the feature. if everybody had a "start the feature at the back" penalty for wreck/spin contact earlier in the night it might start to get their attention.

black flagging for flagrant blocking ( or wrecking ) of cars trying to make an outside pass would be nice but thats a different issue.

This does sound like a step in the right direction. I'd like the invert to be at least 4 positions or more. Just inverting 2 doesn't amount to much.

I assume that point number 3 means that if a driver wins one week by beating 20 cars then he has to start the following week in position 20? If there were 24 cars that he beat then he starts 24th?

Now if we can get more tracks doing something similar.

I assume that point number 3

point 4, but yeah that's what it means.

I'd like the invert to be at least 4 positions or more.

point 2 randomly jumbles the field. it would be possible for the second place finisher to start the next weeks race on the pole but it's just as likely that he'll start the next week right next to the feature winner at the back of the pack. of course, the same thing applies to every other finisher.

You're right Todd. Point 4 not 3. Duh

You're also right about the invert. With heat races being run an invert isn't as big a deal as it would be for time trials. Thanks for the clarification. This does sound like a good deal.
