  • "Ole" Gal getting New Face as Orlando SpeedWorld prepares for 2008 Racing Season

Orlando, FL (March 11, 2008) The "ole" gal will get a new facelift this week as Orlando SpeedWorld prepares for the 2008 opening night.

Billy Cuddy Painting is at the track freshening the place up and the new family fan section is being completed as we write.

So not only will fans and drivers see new concessions but new paint and a new family section. "I am so excited about this Friday night," said General Manager Rusty Marcus. "I know not everything will be perfect but we sure are trying hard. I think the fans will really appreciate the new family fan section and the new concession stand for both the grandstands and the pits. It is going to be great."

Orlando SpeedWorld will open this Friday night, March 13, with the City Beverage/Budweiser Sunbelt 125, Legends, Bandoleros, Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock.

The fun begins at 8 pm. General admission is $20.00, students and seniors (62 and older) $15.00, children 11 and under FREE.

Fireworks, lots of racing, and plenty of family fun, BE THERE!!!!

Definately not a race fans idea, (nor do they listen to the input by them or the racers) but I will hold judgement this year maybe the crew at Orlando can run a 125 lap super plus all the other events in 3-4 hours. Who knows but we will see how it goes, only if I was a betting man. (I can see the single light of that train wreck coming!!!!!)

If you were a betting man, I would take your money. The track will get the show in; 8 classes is nothing new. My original concern is with the quality of the program, and how frustrating it can be to not start it off with a bang.

Thats the point, people (fans) want quality over quantity, verses (track oprators) quanity over quality! People has stated over and over give me 3-4 divisions heat races and a quality show. Not the usual no heats ok guys get it done quick 8 features....
I personally like a 10 lap heat race then a feature but I forgot not enough cars for 2 heats!!!!
This is an issue that the tracks just dont seem to get cut down on divisions get a quiality program going and people will come but when there are 2-3 dvisions which are practically the same it is boring watching that type of racing..

Well, we are making progress: I usually disagree with you most of the time!

OSW can pull off a 8 division show because the classes don't resemble each other. You are correct: some tracks run bombers, pure stock, hobby stock etc., all classes that resemble each other and go more or less that same speed. At least the OSW classes look and sound different. It is also true that some will not have enough participants.

Too bad that racers cannot easily change their cars over so if a class gets dropped, they can jump to another. This is rarely the case, so dropping classes puts lots of racers on the sidelines. Given the choice, I'd rather see 8 small classes than 4 small ones.

Having a big race (read that as "extra money to get in" race) almost always hurts the support from the support classes. If I had a Super Stock, why would I want to pay $30 to get in, get no heat race, and run just a feature? I'd wait until next week that costs me $20 AND I get more track time.

Cut it to 4 classes, heat races for all of them, and extra laps for each feature, but not too many laps.

Not bashing Rusty here... it's the metality of far too many tracks around here.

I've always thought that there should be some kind of price break for the regulars in the support classes when it comes to "big show" night. They are getting less for their money so that non-regulars can make bigger money.

How about selling advance tickets (the week before) to your support divisions for regular price? I'd rather get $20 from guys coming next week, than trying to get $30 from people who aren't coming. And you'll increase your car count as well.
