This time the caps were intentional. Wife and I tried out her new motor home this weekend. We didnt feel like dealing with a boat and fishing, felt more like just relaxing for the weekend. Been wanting to meet Rick Anges so it was Desoto Speedway.Stayed at Lake Manatee Park, about a mile or so from the track, great place to just relax.
When we got to Desoto, bought tickets, the girl seemed sincerely happy to see us, I said "guess she don't know who I am"!! Gave tickets to a girl with a huge smile, very friendly, was introduced to her later, she was REDFOX, good job REDFOX! Wife was impressed too.
Took our seats and I walked up to the announcers tower and met Rick Anges. What a friendly genuine welcome I received. Immediately Rick said "Hey everyone, this is Tunaman!!!" Didn't know what to expect!! Later on during the program Rick even welcomed us to Desoto on the PA system. Immediately everyone is shaking my hand and being genuinly friendly. Dave Wasserman (an official) said come on Tuna, I've got just enought time to show you around. He introduced me to Redfox, took me in the office introduced me to John, the track owner. John was extremely friendly, And in fact three times later came to me and my wife, took us in his office at intermission and showed us all his racing memories.
Dave put me in his car, took me thru the pits, brought me in Johns and his sons race shop where they're building a couple Mods. Told them its a good thing I don't live near by, I'd be a real pain in their neck just hanging out!!
Dave proceeded to give me a ride around the track, great track. Made me wanted to climb in a car. I must say, in the 20 yrs I've been in Florida and the last several involved to some degree in racing, I have NEVER been treated so good in my life at a race track. I've never been abused anyplace but I mean DESOTO was a class act!!! We each bought a DESOTO T-Shirt and just riding around Sun had 2 people ask us if we had been there and I told them both if they go tell them Tunaman sent them. I really hope it helps
It is about 3-3 1/2 hrs but wife and I will be back, soon. Thanks everyone for making our weekend
