Speedworld Friday night...

Made my first visit of the year, to the track closest to home... and had a really entertaining night. Pretty good car counts in all but the Bandaleros (3) and Legends (2), and really good racing for the most part. Definitely had fun, and will return later in the year when a good SLM show is scheduled.

On the down side (most of you know that I almost always point out one)... what in the HELL was going on with the tow-truck crew that was hauling off the #77 Late Model (Eddie King Jr...?). It took something like 35-40 minutes to remove that ONE car. It was so ridiculous that flagman Ralph got out of the tower to have a personal discussion with the track crew trying to find out the big hold up.

This kind of crap will KILL a crowds interest in a hurry... and thats exactly what happened. Most of the people stayed through that race, but bolted for the gates the second the checkers flew. The lateness chased them off, before some of the other races that were very good and entertaining. Unfortunately, most fans were gone before some of the best racing of the night.

Someone needs to have a loooooooong talk with them boys, or find someone or something else that will get the job done in a reasonable amount of time.

Finally, OSW gets a good field, perfect weather, great competition... and it all got screwed up by a tow-truck...

If it was the track's tow truck they probably had to re-carge the battery, change the oil and do a brake job before lifting the car LOL... Couldn't have been Tim Cordell... Tim is so darn efficient even with a tough tow... maybe he was off Friday night or has quit working there?

I saw that struggle as well. We were already out of the race, but it made for a very late nite waiting for the purse payout. With a 2 hour drive back to Saint Augustine, it is a loooooong night.

It was Tim and it's not the first time he's slowed a show down. I was there and couldnt understand why they didnt just pull it into the infield. Even the tower was asking that question.

Strictly stock race had one caution(?)for a spin. The super lates had several, the e-mods had quite a few as well. The racing was pretty good though.

There was good news, despite the "Tim Towing" thing--good racing, and a good night at a local Friday night Racway, nonetheless. It's nice to go to Orlando Speedworld once again for a good show.

I worked on the wrecker crew at Daytona in the mid-80s and we were given very strict advice. Some of you may remember the name Harold Kinder - he was race director back then. His directive was "Hook the junk and drag it off the track as fast as possible. The spectators didn't pay to watch the wreckers!" He also told us once, "If the driver doesn't like the way you're doing your job - too bad - he had his chance and screwed it up! Tell him to get the hell out of your way."

Unless someone is injured and the wreckers have to wait on the Medical Personnel or unless there are more than two cars involved, it should rarely ever take more than 5 to 7 minutes to clear a wreck from the track...

OK none of you have anymore experience than Tim. I wasent there but if tim was then he was dooing al that canbe done.. I worked with a lot of guys on wreckers and Tim is as good as any..just saying. dont blame it on Tim .

Not to be argumentitive but Tim admitted over the radio that he was having trouble that night. Ah, the beauty of scanners. I was there and Ive seen Tim fumble on mutiple occasions... i appreciate that he was trying to be careful but it was way beyond ridiculous.
