  • PJ Wiggins Has Gets the Checkers

I'll pass this along since I don't see it posted anywhere here...

Dirt modified racer PJ Wiggins has taken the checkers in his race against cancer, as he passed away yesterday. He was only 35 years old.

PJ's last appearance at Volusia Speedway Park was on June 4th when he finished 3rd behind Kyle Bronson and Jeff Mathews. According to another racer, PJ was so sick that night that he could not get out of the race car after his heat, so he sat in it until time to stage for the feature race.

PJ won on June 25th at Bubba Raceway Park, reportedly racing in extreme discomfort again but overcoming it to grab a victory. As far as I know, that was his last race. I'm trying to find out if that is the case or not.

I did not know PJ but have seen his name listed as a driver in the modified class. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I saw P.J. a number of times at Volusia when I was there in his modified. Guess he was very determined to race no matter what. Thank you B.J. for posting his passing and his family and friends are in my prayers. 35 is so young but cancer does not seem to have any age limit at all to it.

God Bless you P.J., your family and friends. You will be missed.

Such sad news, especially a guy that young. Although I never met him, I did see him race several times, and am proud that I witnessed his final win at Ocala.

Is it possible that was his only win??? If it was, it's a great example of the human will to overcome his health issues, and left us as a winner...!

          so much sadness...

it hurts me to read of someone dying of cancer at such a young age. but cancer has no favorites and strikes at random. I didnt know this man but my thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. so sorry.
