IMHO I think Larry Mac is good, lately Petty has been making stupid comments like he has an axe to grind with acouple of drivers. Some of the older annoucer back in the day were Bob Jenkins,Ned Jarrett, Eli Gold,Paul Page, and who could ever forget the call of the "pass in the grass"by Dale Erhardt by Keith Jackson.Ken Squire was good back when CBS & TBS broadcasted the races, but today I think Mike Joy is the best.

Eli Gold was awesome as a radio announcer but I couldn't stand listening to him on Television. Don't ask me why because you really don't see them in either medium but it's the way he affected me. Most of the others I think are, or were, pretty good. I loved Niel Bonnett.
I like that DW gave Reutimann a chance and think he's probably a decent person. Never met him. I just don't like his announcing style.
Larry Mac is criticized for his vocabulary and that's probably why I like him. LOL
I'm just glad we don't have ex formula 1 drivers such as David Hobbs and Jackie Stewart announcing NASCAR any longer. I use to cringe listening to them at some of the older races.

The old ESPN bunch of Bob Jenkins, the late Larry Nuber and Dave DeSpain was absolutely the best and no one could beat Ned Jarrett and good ol' Benny Parsons as analysts... Larry Rice was good on the old Thursday Thunder shows too... Locally, the two best and guys I learned the most from were Bob Keith at the old Orlando Raceway and Gordon Solie at The Gate...

Well If we are talking local as some have Roby Helm. He was at Desoto back in the day and I think he is still announcing in Nashville. I have worked with a lot of good announcers and some not so good but Roby was the best. He always made it a point to study the drivers cards and know each driver and their racing history. He had a awesome memory. Never any dead air with Roby he was informing you of something all the time. Bob...

T.v. racing stinks. Its is over rated

I never really cared for the T.V. race announcers. Turn the volume off on the T.V. and tune in MRN or PRN. Hopefully you have a radio station or satellite radio so you can listen to it. I love listing to Barney Hall, Joe Moore, Winston Kelley, Dave Moody, Mike Bagley, and Eli Gold. These guys can take the most boring race and make it exciting. Now on the local level one the best by far is Joe Linebarier. Joe is Probably the most descriptive and colorful announcers I have ever heard. Just a natural announcer. And Yes elmer and Bob, I thought Roby Helm was one of the best along with the 1st announcer of PGS Larry Eungard. Larry would always make it a point to go through the pits before the race and talk to every driver, he made it very personable with the drivers and fans.

Going thru the pits and welcomeing the drivers and owners is a good deal. The job of a good promoter. I still like the idea of a suggestion box at the tracks, but I guess I'm hijacking my own post.

An oustanding short track announcer will know his racing, his racers and teams, the area he's in, his public and is a mesmerizing entertainer, one that is not afraid to go so far in his saying that sometime the whole crowd will turn around, look at the tower and all think: ''I just cannot believe he just said that''. That is called getting your attention, and this guy I just describe is the X Thunder Road announcer, the one and only Dave Moody.

                        D.W.

But Local Announcers: Jason Beckner. When he was at PGS he knew every ca, driver, and he intercated with the crowd. He was also vey fun to listen to he made the races even more exciting. Rob Kohler is another awesome announcer he doesnt get the cowd as pumped as Jason though.
