I get a kick out of Zac Curtis, a young man from Palm Bay who runs trucks and FASCAR Super Stocks. He is a good-natured goofball, but who wasn't at 16? I like the fact that Zac works on his own equipment, and doesn't just rely on a rich parent to carry the load. His driving has really come around too.

He's not really a "kid" anymore, but Kory Abbott is still a very fast young man who deserves the chance to move up from the Legend Cars... His team is family-funded and I think he's won nearly every race he's entered this year... He has a full-time job as a stunt driver at Disney... Former champion in quarter midgets, many-time Legend Car champion at OSW and has cut back his racing schedule because of his day job... The only FL driver to make the finale at the Legends Million last year....

As I get older and older, the definition of "kid" is also migrating upward.

My buddy Andy Lessera is probably 20 or so, but here is a young racer who works hard on his equipment (a Pro truck), and is making steady improvements on a very slim budget. He has an extensive and successful background in karting, and a racing family to draw from too.

He is the kind of young racer that we need to keep involved!

well anyone under 50 is a kid to me so lets set it up so that anyone under 21 is racing they should reply. ;-) i am anxious to see how many kids will have the maturity to promote themselves. They sure cant be any less mature than the adults on here have been.
we are taking our board back and using it to promote this sport and the kids who are the future of RACING!
I will call Rick every single time i see a post that isnt promoting racing. Take your complaints to the complain board! this one is for fun and growth of the sport!

I'm Dalton Baldwin. I drive the #4 Open Wheel Modified at Desoto Super Speedway. I was awarded Rookie of the Year honors in 2009 in the Flyin' 4 division at Desoto and in 2010 in the Open Wheel Modified's at Desoto. My dad is Bobby Baldwin, 3-time Open Wheel Modified champion at Desoto.

I've always been drawn to racing ever since I was very little. I used to take my toy cars around the coffee table, calling each lap. I pay constant attention to the races on Sunday and watch old races of my dad's to try and learn different things I can do to be better and faster. I knew I wanted to be a racecar driver at a very young age. Hopefully I can make it to Nascar some day. My dad's my hero, and I try my best to be as good as he is. He's the main reason I'm in racing. I'm very thankful and grateful that my dad has gotten me this far in racing and he does everything he can to take me farther, I could never repay him for what he's done for me.

Thank you Carol for starting this thread for the young racers around here.

                      Thank you,
                      Dalton Baldwin

I'm Dalton Nelson. I race the 94 OWM at Citrus County speedway and occasionally at Desoto. Last year was my First season, which I only ran 6 races and finished 10th in the points standings. This year I am running at Citrus County and am currently 8th in the points standings.

I've been around racing ever since I was born. My dad is 3 time OWM champion (Desoto '99, '00 and Citrus '07) Teddy Nelson. He got me into racing at the age of 7 by buying me my first go-cart. Without my dad and mom's support I would not be able to compete. My dad has taught me everything I know about how to work on the cars and how to drive.

I hope that everyone who reads this will make the trip up to Citrus County Speedway and see some really great racing!

Thanks Carol for starting this thread,

"No Brake" Jake Perkins out of Ocala FL. This is a young man with a ton of talent and ability that has won races and championships at every level of racing he's been involved in since he was 8. At the age of 10 he won 2 national and 4 state championships in karting. The following year he ran bandos and won 9 feature races on a limited schedule. The following year he ran Legends cars, won 9 features, again, in limited action. Last season, Jake had a really good year. He won 14 feature events, won the track championships at both Auburndale Speedway and Citrus County Speedway. He also won the state championship in the Young Lions division and finished second in the nation in the Young Lions division by 3 points. Jake currently runs a late model in the FUPS series. There have been some growing pains, but he continues to improve race after race. With the help of crew chief Jimmy Cope and also the help of Edward Howell, Jake not only continues to grow as a driver, but as a competitor and a person. Anyone who has every talked to this young man knows he is very humble, appreciates everything he has and certainly appreciates the hard work everyone has done to get him to this stage in his career. At only 14 years of age, he has a very bright future ahead of him. Our goals for next season are to run the PASS South series, assuming we can come up with the funding to do so. If not, Jake will continue his development locally, running track in the southeast while he continues to build his already impressive resume.
