With full containment seats and the limited range of vision in some of the cars today a radio is a good thing to have. I think the good far out weights the bad IF used properly. A GOOD spotter could tell their driver if they are leaking fluids, have something rubbing on a tire that could potentially blow out, etc. Just two examples of issues that really could really cause a mess for the driver and others on the track. There are ways to deal with mirror drivers and blocking. Let the racers deal with that, the tracks job is to put as many safety procautions in place as possible with radios/racecievers being one of them. Drivers are required to register their frequency and the track should monitor them if they think the radio is being abused.

Dirt Cars probably don't need them as much as asphalt cars because they spend most of the lap sideways and they can see out the drivers window who is next/behind them. Dave Westerman, I just would like to know how they came up with the penalty for alunimun heads on the modifieds (56% left), when every track around makes you add 50 lbs in front of the flywheel or nothing at all? When are they going to announce a tire brand/type Dave?
