  • Bronson Speedway Sportsman Rules

    1. Any 1965 or newer American made passenger vehicle with a minimum wheel base of 105" and a minimum weight of 3000 lbs. with driver-after race.

    2. Maximum 58% left side weight, with driver-after race. No tolerance.

    3. No station wagons or convertibles allowed.

    BODY

    1. Any fiberglass, aluminum, or original production body allowed. No trucks, station wagons, or convertible bodies allowed.

    2. Gutting of interior permitted. Dash may be removed or replaced.

    3. Minimum of (3) front hood pins, and (2) rear hood pins required. May use hinges on rear of hood instead of pins.

    4. Hinges and/or pins required on deck lid.

    5. Aftermarket nose and tail pieces permitted for model of car.

    6. Side skirts permitted. Minimum 4" ground clearance on any part of skirt.

    7. Lead ballast may be added but must be securely fastened to frame with minimum (2) 1/2" bolts for each block of ballast. 50 lb. maximum per block. Must be painted white and have your car number on each block.

    8. Full Lexan windshield required. Minimum 1/8" thick. Car number must be marked in top right corner(pass. side) of windshield, for line up purposes.

    9. Driver's compartment must be sealed from engine compartment and trunk area with minimum 22 gauge steel. Absolutely no holes in fire walls. Driver's compartment may be boxed.

    10. Maximum 6" high rear spoiler. No side spoilers permitted.

    CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION

    1. No truck frames permitted.

    2. Steering components may be altered.

    3. Spring heights may be altered. Racing springs allowed.

    4. Any steel bodied racing shocks allowed. No coilover shocks.

    5. Shock mounting points may be relocated.

    6. Tubular upper A-frames allowed.

    7. Lowering blocks, Shackles, Sliders, and Steel suspension bushings allowed.

    8. Aftermarket sway bars permitted. May be adjustable.

    9. Unibodies may be tied together with box tubing from back of front stub, to the front of rear stub only. Frames can be fabricated behind rear axle. Under slung chassis permitted.

    10. Wedge bolts permitted-front and rear.

    ENGINE

    1. GM 602 Crate engine with 650 CFM carburetor (Holley #80541-1) permitted. Crate engine may use maximum 1" thick carb spacer.

    2. Engines may be interchanged from manufacturer of chassis.

    3. 400 cubic inch Maximum.

    4. Engine must mount in stock location. Aftermarket engine mounts permitted.

    5. Decking of engine block permitted.

    6. No titanium or ceramic engine parts allowed.

    7. Stock type push rods only.

    8. Any hydraulic or solid camshaft permitted. No roller cams.

    9. Flat top piston only. May be fly cut for valve clearance.

    10. Piston may use floating wrist pin.

    11. Any piston ring(s) permitted.

    12. Steel connecting rods only.

    13. Cast or Steel crankshaft - minimum crank weight = 48 lbs.

    14. Aftermarket harmonic balancer recommended.

    15. No Bowtie, SVO, or Aluminum engine blocks allowed.

    CYLINDER HEAD

    1. Steel cylinder heads only. Screw-in studs and guide plates permitted. Roller rocker arms permitted.

    2. Steel or Stainless Steel valve train components only.

    INTAKE MANIFOLD

    1. Any cast iron or aluminum intake manifold.

    2. No porting, polishing, or grinding on intake.

    3. Maximum 1" thick carburetor spacer.

    CARBURETOR

    1. Box stock Holley #4412 500 CFM Carburetor only. May not be altered in any way.

    2. Choke plate may be removed.

    3. Any air cleaner permitted.

    4. Air box permitted.

    OIL SYSTEM

    1. Wet sump oil system only. May use windage tray. Oil pump must mount in stock location on engine block. No external oil pumps.

    2. Remote oil filter permitted.

    3. Screens or plugs in oil galley and lifter valley tray permitted.

    4. No vacuum pumps allowed.

    WATER PUMP

    1. Any belt driven water pump permitted.

    FUEL PUMP

    1. Any mechanical fuel pump permitted. No electric or belt driven fuel pumps.

    2. No rubber fuel line.

    3. No plastic or glass fuel filters.

    TRANSMISSION

    1. OEM automatic transmission with operating torque converter.

    2. OEM manual transmission with at least two forward gears and reverse.

    3. No five or six speed transmissions.

    4. Blow proof bellhousing required with all manual transmissions.

    DRIVESHAFT

    1. Steel driveshaft only.

    2. Driveshaft must be painted white.

    3. Driveshaft hoops required front and rear. (See SAFETY rule #9)

    REAR END

    1. Floater rear allowed. Quick change rears permitted but must add 100 lbs.

    2. Interchanging of rear ends allowed.

    3. Shock mounting points optional.

    4. Leaf springs may use sliders.

    5. 3-link rear suspension allowed.

    CLUTCH

    1. Any 10" minimum diameter steel single disc clutch allowed.

    FLYWHEEL

    1. Steel flywheel only.

    ELECTRICAL

    1. Any battery fired ignition.

    2. No multi spark ignition.

    3. Any OEM style High Energy Ignition distributor

    4. Any electric starter. Vehicle must be able to self start without assistance.

    5. Battery must be enclosed in marine type battery container.

    6. 12 Volt system only.

    EXHAUST

    1. Exhaust pipe must exit to side of vehicle behind driver.

    2. Maximum 3" exhaust.

    3. Street type Headers allowed.

    FUEL

    1. Absolutely no fuel additives or nitrous oxide.

    2. Maximum 22 gallon fuel cell mandatory. Removal of trunk floor for mounting of fuel cell is permitted. Minimum 8" ground clearance at all times.

    3. Fuel cell must be in steel container and securely mounted.

    4. Tip over valve required.

    5. No external filler neck.

    WHEELS

    1. Maximum 8" wide steel wheel only.

    2. Minimum 1/2" wheel studs with 1" lug nuts required on all four wheels.

    TIRES

    1. Approved track tire only (contact speedway office)

    2. No tire enhancing or softening treatment permitted.

    BRAKES

    1. Any four wheel brake system in working order.

    SAFETY

    1. Bronson Speedway officials reserve the right to inspect any car at any time. All cars must have an initial safety inspection prior to competition.

    2. All required safety equipment and apparel must be utilized any time the car is on the race track:

    A) Racing helmet with minimum of Snell 95 rating.

    B) Neck collar or Head And Neck System highly recommended.

    C) SFI approved Fire Suit. No holes or torn suits will be permitted.

    D) Fire resistant racing gloves only. No mechanics gloves allowed.

    E) Fire resistant racing shoes.

    F) Fire resistant underwear and socks highly recommended.

    3. A minimum 4 point roll cage made of steel tubing(DOM recommended), minimum of 1-1/2" outside diameter and minimum .095 inch wall thickness. No square tubing or galvanized pipe will be permitted. Absolutely NO exceptions. Roll bar padding required on all bars within reach of driver.

    4. An engine kill switch required which must be accessible by both the driver and from outside the car. Kill switch must be highlighted with bright orange paint or vinyl, and be clearly marked "ON - OFF".

    5. All cars must have a fire extinguisher (minimum 2 pounds) securely fastened within reach of driver. The mounting must be in such a way that the driver can quickly remove extinguisher from its mount. Approved for Racing Halon system may be used in place of extinguisher.

    6. A quick release 5-point racing harness with 3" belts, dated 2005 or newer, required in all vehicles. All belt installation must be approved by Bronson Speedway safety officials. Sternum belt allowed. Belts must be utilized any time vehicle is on race track. Racing harness must be attached to roll cage with minimum 1/2" bolts.

    7. Window nets are required on the driver's side of the car and must be securely fastened. Nets must latch at the top and be operational from inside and outside the car.

    8. Aluminum racing seat mandatory.

    9. Drive shaft must be painted white. Drive shaft loops required on both front and rear of drive shaft. Loops should be made of 1" wide x 1/4" thick steel, and be within 12" of front and rear universal joint. Must be able to catch drive shaft in event of shaft failure. No chains will be permitted as loops.

    10. Battery shall be secured to frame of car and must be encased in spill proof container.

    11. Lead ballast only. Must be painted white, marked with car #, and secured to frame of vehicle with minimum (2) 1/2" bolts. 50 pound maximum per block.

    12. Throttle toe strap and solid throttle linkage with (2) return springs required.

    13. All cars must have front and rear tow hooks. Hooks must be strong enough to support weight of vehicle when towed.

    14. All cars must have a radiator overflow container. Water is only acceptable coolant
